Depression and antidepressants?!

Question: Depression and antidepressants!?
i have been facing depression for what i consider a majority of my life but that has gotten worse the past few months because of a series of events, and now im going to a counselor, she said something about possibly perscribing antidepressants but i hear this can cause suicide!. why is that!? does it have to do with the way the medicine coincides with your brain chemistry, or is it more to do with the comedown of when you quit taking it!? any one know!? i hear a lot of its trial and error!.

also, anything else you know that can help with depression, like exercise, my counselor also said to eat more meat because the neurotransmittors or w/e, i forget, help with the brain!. anything u can throw in there as far as advice!.!.!. 10 points and/or the satisfaction of knowing you helped a depressed person out!. thank you in advanceWww@Answer-Health@Com

There's not a lot of research to support the theory that antidepressants make you suicidal!. There's lots of research showing that depression makes you suicidal, and guess what!? Depressed people are the ones taking antidepressants!.

Antidepressants work for about half the people who try them and they are certainly worth trying in your case!. There are many types so if the first one doesn't work another one might!.

Exercise helps and eating a well balanced diet helps but if you are seriously depressed you probably need more help!. Most docs I know suggest that if antidepressants help stay on them for a minimum of 6 months to a year!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have a friend who takes anti- depressants and the guy is like a walking zombie now!.!. he just switches from one medication to the next and he really seems the same!. if you really wanna take something to get rid of your depression without the suicidal side effects try this plant called salvia divinorum!. theres many ways to consume the plant but in your case i would recommend chewing the leaves or drinking a tincture since the effects last much longer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have been on antidepressants for over 20 yrs!. My doctor suggested in the beginning to walk, exercise, or any activity!. Get a good antidepressant!. And counseling does help!. Suicidal tendencies usually happen to teenagers, and not adult!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Changing diet and exercise help a lot of people with depression!. Try it first, you can start on antidepressants if all else fails!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The reason antidepressants can cause suicide in some patients is because of the way they work in your brain!. The antidepressants commonly prescribed by doctors now a days are SSRI's such as Prozac?!. (selective serotonin rebutake inhibitors)
Serotonin is the "well being" neurochemical in your brain!. So when you have depression that means that the serotonin in your brain is depleted!. What the SSRI does is prevent the serotonin from being broken down and let's it hang out in your brain making you feel better!.
So, the suicide can be influenced by the antidepressant's effect on increasing motivation to do things (such as killing yourself or washing your car) in the person taking the medication before the person's depression is lifted!. Cases such as this are very rare!. So, as you can see, antidepressants don't cause suicide, depression does!
Most antidepressants take 2-4 weeks to take full effect so there is no "comedown" when you stop taking them because they actually change the levels of neurochemicals and are made to take long term!.
Antidepressants are safe and effective if used under the close supervision of a psychiatrist or medical professional!.
Good luck and feel better!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Antidepressants do not cause suicide!. What rarely happens is that someone who is very depressed takes the antidepressant and gets enough energy to attempt suicide!. The reason someone is depressed is because the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, the levels of this are too low!. Take vit B and E for brain function, vit!. D for mood!. Take care of yourself eat right, exercise, get plenty of sleep, journal, meditate, do daily affirmations, force yourself to smile and hold it 30 sec!. (improves the mood), catch yourself if thinking negatively and change your thought process!. If you find yourself saying I hate (blank), change your language to something softer like I am not fond of!.!.!.Also go to a depression support group!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
