How would you treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?!

Question: How would you treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!?
My group and I in General Psychology have to solve this case study on a 13 year old boy with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!. His symptoms are so extreme that at times he will refuse to eat, sleep, shower, or even attend school because it will interrupt his daily activities!. He is also overprotective of his bedroom; kicking and screaming over the fear of someone entering the while he is away from it!.

There is no questioning whether he has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; the teacher has classified it as such so we must treat it as if it is OCD!. My group members and I decided on the biological approach assuming it is the easiest considering we do not have direct contact with the subject (He is just a story out of the book, as far as we know) so it would be impossible to psychoanalyze him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The best way to treat obsessive compulsive disorder or phobias is ease a person into facing their worst fear!. Someone with OCD has a fear that something horrible will happen if they don't perform certain rituals!. First make them realize that notion has no basis in reality!. Then instruct them to refrain from their ritual!. At first it is agonizing for them!. Eventually they forget why they felt the need for the rituals in the first place!.

Edit: I don't believe medication is necessary for OCD!. You should try therapy as suggested above before any attempt at medication!. Especially in a child!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually, Luvox is a much better medication than either one of those things!.!.!.!.and behavior modifiication also!.!.!.This is a lack of serotonin, if I understand it correctly!.!.!.something has happened to this child, to be so overprotective of his bedroom!.!.!.sounds almost like something or someone has violated his trust there!.!.!.he needs to really have someone he can trust to talk to!.!.!.he will get worse if not!.!.but the Luvox, might help him until he can get some helpWww@Answer-Health@Com

I suffer from OCD!. I shower maybe 1/2 dozen ties per day ( each shower takes at least 30 mins)!. I am up for hours checking windows and doors!. I do everything in sixes!. Have a phobia against odd numbers, and on and on the list goes!.
I have been seeing a Consultant Psychiatrist for over a year now and the conclusion that they have come to is that they will not treat my OCD because it is my coping strategy to life and would leave me with nothing!
Email me if you want this in more detail!.
Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

You could try CBT therapy/ recommend CBT therapy!. (Or does that come under the direct contact!? I'm unsure where it's just direct contact to speak and ask him questions etc, or if you're unable to recommend him to speak to a psych and that sort of thing!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Look for a specialist or a therapist!. OCD is something in your head they'll work with youWww@Answer-Health@Com
