im on zoloft & depakote!. i am not making any progress despite going to a therapist every week and a psychiatrist every month!. im starting college in the fall and i cant live there because no one feels that im emotionally stable enough!. how long does it usually take for people to find a medicine combination that is right for them!? this disorder that im struggling to live with every day is ruining my life!. as im getting older, i can see it getting more & more severe!. im afraid im going to lose every1 i love because of it!. when i told my psychiatrist that i felt worse rather than better, all she did was up my doseage of zoloft, which made me even worse!. so on my own decision, eventhough i was warned, i stopped taking my zoloft!. i feel depressed still, useless, worthless, hopeless, but atleast im not on the outside looking in anymore!. im no longer a walking zombie!. i just need to know what is the most successful drug for people who are bipolar and or depressed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have been on Dep and Zoloft for two months or more and the best your doc came up with was increasing Zoloft, my recommendation is to go find a psychiatrist who specializes in mood disorders w/a lot of experience with bipolar!. There are two schools of thought!. One is that antidepressants may help some more than they hurt them!. The other is that antidepressants should never be used because A!. they don't do anything, B!. they cause mixed states, or C!. they precipitate flips to mania!. It sounds like yours is doing nothing!.

I don't understand why your doc has not put you on Lamictal!. It is the anticonvulsant w/the strongest antidepressant properties!. It is a very good medicine and is very frequently used!.

Lithium is as good or better at controlling mania than Depakote and it include an antidepressant lift!. Depakote can cause depression in some!. What's more Depakote can cause metobolic changes, mess with female hormones, and generally is not often used in young women for that reason!. If you go here http://www!.crazymeds!.us you may get someone to give you links to legitimate medical research to share with your parents on this!. If not, google the official epilepsy sites (it's used for that)!. You should be able to find the same info there!.

There are others meds to consider!. Going solely by what you've posted, I'd loose your pdoc and hire a better one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
