Is this (work) abuse?!

Question: Is this (work) abuse!?
I have a job that I am good at!. I am a paralegal!. I have been doing this for 10+ years!. For the past FOUR jobs I have been getting more angry that lawyers behave the way they do!. I end up changing jobs every 18 months!. Here's what normally happens: I start the job, I show my "skills" and they reap the rewards because I can do work like an attorney but I am not one so they get to bill around $300 an hour for the work I do at around $100 an hour!. Then on top of that I get all of these duties that are not typical of my job!. I end up being the manager of my attorneys, including their personal lives (helping one attorney run her husband's electoral campaign) etc!. I end up doing everything I can to please them just anticipating some good praise and then nothing and then I get chastized (sp) for somethign tiny I didn't do and then I get a huge praise every three or four months!.

Am I paranoid and burned out or have I had horrible luck with my bosses!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Sounds like you have some serious burn-out!. I actually know two people who are paralegals and they have some of the same complaints, but, in general they don't mind the money thing or the extras!. My thoughts are that it's time you upgraded!. Maybe you should consider law school and be the attorney instead of work for one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are lucky!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sounds to me like you need to be more assertive!. if you told them no every once in a while, you wouldn't be overwhelmed and burned out!. they might respect you a little more!. if you could kindly but firmly say "boss lady, i think that my time would be better spent working in the office as my job description states!. not that i wouldn't love to help, but i don't have the time or expertise to run your husband's campaign and complete my work here!."

no- your bosses should not have you work on their personal stuff, but you should stand up for yourself and tell them when they have given you too much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
