Question: What is the difference between DID/MPD and schizophrenia!?
(I'm sorry I can't spell it!.!.!. and DID/MPD is dissociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorder, whatever it's called now!.) xxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
They are two completely different disorders!. Schizophrenia is frequently mixed up with multiple personalities (the word schizophrenia means "Split mind" in Greek) but this is incorrect!. It is a severe impairment in perception and expression of reality, often manifested in thought disturbances and hallucinations (auditory and/or visual)!. It has many subtypes such as catatonic and paranoid!.
Dissociative Identity Disorder is a condition where a person exhibits multiple identities that each have their own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment!. Only one is active at a time, so it's literally like talking to more than one person!. It's very rare but gets lots of media attention!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have DID and there is a big difference between what i have and schizophrenia!.Schizophrenia is a pychotic illness which is charactorized by halluncinations, delusions, disorganized thinking,it impairs a person so bad they are unable to function in the community, but with proper medications and therapy, they can lead normal productive lives in society!.DID is caused by an extreme abusive background, which happens before the age of 6,the person creates alter/parts to deal with the trauma, which occurs, but also my have a certain role, such as protector, inside helper, ect!.Most people with DID can lead normal lives too,but if some of their alter/parts do any type of self harming or other destructive behavoirs,it can cause them to have problems with functioning in society, but with proper counseling and allowing the alters to share what happened to them will begin to heal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

DID or MPD is characterized by multiple personality states where one personality is often not consciously aware of what another one does!.

A person may think, feel and behave very differently depending upon which 'alter' is conscious at the time!.

This typically doesn't happen in Schizophrenia but I suppose a person could have both disorders!.!.!.!.maybe!?

Schizphrenia is typically characterized by 'identity diffusion' and odd affective states ie!. rigid body movements, thoughts that don't make sense, difficulty communicating etc!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

DID is MPD!. The term MPD is not used to label people with MPD anymore they use DID to label them!. There are many different degrees of MPD!. DID is not schizophrenia but people with it can have skitzo tendancies and many times do!. I've dealt with about 6 different cases of people with MPD in my hypnotherapy practice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
