Where did labels first get introduced!? There are so many reasons for them!. If you have a filing cabinet do you not label your folders so that you have some structure and organization!? I just think it's done for those reasons and so that one doctor can describe to a future doctor what the person has had so that they know how to treat & medicate them!. I'm in the medical field and it's SO important to know these things so they may provide a clue to the current symptoms!. That's why they always ask you, "have you ever had!.!.!."!? Then there's the other side of it, when someone uses those labels to hurt and berate!. Unfortunately there will always be people who bring others down so they can feel up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The sad thing is they are not even given these labels by many but just lumped under the slang terms "crazy" or "psycho!" Or an "emo" by the young!.They are then relegated to the inhuman American equivalent of the Indian "untouchables" as far as their treatment by these people!. It is sadly a human trait to treat some as inferior to make themselves feel superior!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's a shorthand for the insurance companies and so that doctors can communicate with each other without spewing a laundry list of symptoms!. After all, why do we label someone a diabetic!? Just because you HAVE an illness -- like having bipolar -- doesn't have to mean that you ARE a manic-depressive!. It's just like a trick knee!. You have it!. You aren't it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

when I am in the middle of being ill, I definately feel like it is my identity!. I feel like it is who I am!. As for as mental health professionals, I don't feel it is appropriate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, we are all human, but mental illnesses are all different with different symptoms!. Different treatments are prescibed for differernt inllnesses!. Just as physical illnesses are different, so are mental illnesses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is proper to say that they suffer from a mental illness, rather than they are a ental illnes!. We don't say, "he is cancer", for example!. We say he HAS cancer!.
