True clinical depression is difficult to control/treat without professional intervention!. Definitely get her to someone she can talk to about all the issues that have been stressing her out and her current pregnancy!. In regards to medication, a doctor can determine which drugs and at what time in the pregnancy it is safe to give them!. I have depression and stopped my meds when I was pregnant!. It was really hard and in my 3rd trimester there was no way I could go without them any more- my doctor put me on Wellbutrin!. My daughter was born fine and is advanced for her age, taller than most kids in her class and has shown physical or mental defects!. She is 6!. I trusted my dr!. to know which med was safe and I knew I would be no good if I myself was not healthy- it's a personal decision that the OB can help with- there are options and it does depend on how far along you are because of the stage of development the baby may be in!. Good luck you your sister!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm 47 and pretty experienced in depression--had it my whole life!.

When I was pregnant, my ob/gyn said that whatever my psyc said as far as meds, was ok!. So I stopped my pills for the first trimester only, had an ultrasound and amniocentisis to determine the baby was doing well, and then resumed my medication!. After the ultrasound and amniocentisis, I knew my baby was formed fine and resumed my normal meds, only at a smaller dose!. I now have a very healthy 8 year old!.

Some meds are fine during pregnancy, but you really need a very good, expert psychiatrist who knows this!. Many will not put a pregnant woman on meds, but I'm here to tell you that there are some that will not affect the fetus!.

You need to get her to see someone, and find out!. If she continues to be depressive, the depression can harm the baby more than a medicine can!

Do more research!.
