I take 900mg and it takes two weeks like clock work to work for me!. Time range generally is about 2-4 weeks to be effective!. It is all about blood serum level, not milligrams!. Generally, 900mg gets ppl into the effective range of !.6-1!.0 blood serum, so you may need to increase!. Each is different, so 600mg may be enough for you!. Will it be the right medication!? Hard to say until you try!. About 25% don't respond to it!. Another 25% do but with bad side effects, leaving 50% who respond well!. What you are describing sounds like a mixed state (depressed and hypomanic at the same time) which isn't Lithium's strongest area, but there should still be some improvement!.

If your doctor is not a psychiatrist, go get one!. Mood stabilizers are moving outside of the real expertise of GP/PCP/OB/GYNs!.

Btw, from what I gather, it's not unusual for bipolar type II to become apparent enough for diagnosis after pregnacy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I recently started taking lithium 450mg 2xs a day (900mg total daily)!! From what I've been told, it takes about 4 weeks before we'll be able to start noticing its effect!. I'm only in week 2, so I cant tell much difference yet! Im bipolar II, by the way (among other things!)!. Hope we both do well on it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I take 600mg Lithium Carbonate each night!. I think that it takes a while to kick in (ask your shrink) and a while to get out of your system (ask your shrink)!. If you have a short term more servere problem then you may need an anti-psychotic which will act more quickly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am on 600mg of lithium!.!.!.have been for over 3yrs!. i take my meds at night before going to bed!. the only side effect (if you can call it that) is i crave salt and have dry mouth 24/7!. lithium has worked very well for me!. it has truly helped with the constant mood swings!. (i have bipolar II ultra rapid-cycling)

here is a list of common side effect you may encounter with lithium!.!.!.and may go away within a few week after being on lithium!.!.!.
