Answers:
I was on sertraline for depression!. Like most other selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI's), sertraline often initially may cause stomach upset, restlessness, changes in sleep, dizziness, sexual side effects, etc!. In many cases, these will go away after a few days or a couple of weeks!.

Rarely people have an allergic reaction to it: skin rash, breathing problems, etc!. Anything like that would be a genuine emergency!.

One other thing to be very aware of is that sertraline (like all SSRI's) may cause an increased risk of suicidal or homicidal behavior in some people!. This is a rare, but obviously very dangerous side effect!. If you or the the people around you notice a marked increase in your suicidality, depression or aggression, you should seek medical help at once!.

The trick is that, while the side effects of sertraline typically show up very soon after you first take it, the benefit of the drug may take quite a bit longer (four to six weeks) to be evident - if it works at all!. Some people do not respond to certain SSRI's!. In some cases, increasing the dose will help!. In others, switching to another SSRI works or augmenting the SSRI with another drug will work!. Some people just don't get help from SSRI's!. You won't know until you try!. But don't give up!. With patience and a good doctor, most people can find a medicine or a combination of medicines that relieves their depression!.

One last thought: some people have really awful withdrawal effects from sertraline (and some other SSRI's)!. They can be similar to or worse than the side effects of going on the med and they can include a bizarre electric shock sensation in the limbs or head!. If you need to come off of sertraline make sure you talk to your doctor about doing so slowly!.

Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I took sertraline for years and i must say that the first couple of weeks did make me feel a bit rough!. Give them time because the benefits you will get from them after a few weeks is well worth it!. Your body just needs a bit longer to get used to them and also for it to start working properly!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
