Just started taking Effexor xr and wanted some input on weight gain?!
Question: Just started taking Effexor xr and wanted some input on weight gain!?
I suffer from panic attacks/depression!.
First I tried Paxil but while on it, I gained tons of weight (50 lbs in 2yrs) not to mention my behavior changed-I became very impulsive and drank heavily (not like me) so my doctor switched me to Celexa!.
That made me lose all my weight I gained, plus I stopped drinking! BUT in the end it did not cure my anxiety and I had another bad episode!.
So!.!.!.I just started taking effexor 2 weeks ago so I am at 75mg/day and my doctor wants me to increase my dosage to TWO 75's in one day!.
Anyway, I don't want to put my weight back on because I just lost it all! It could have been because I quit drinking or it could have been the Celexa, whatever the reason I am so scared!. I keep hearing all this crap about how effexor makes you fat!! Any comments!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't believe it will make you fat!. The biggest problem with it is once you're on it, it's hard to get off of it!. But if you were doing well on Celexa (similar to Lexapro - and I did great on it), then the dr!. might be switching you to Effexor XR because it's more complete (it works on an additional neurotrasmitter)!.
Make sure you discuss with your dr!. why he's switched you over to Effexor (you should understand the why's of the decision and be involved in it) but once that decision is made, please trust that it's all going to be for the best!.

You may or may not be experiencing the strong side effects of effexor but if you are they will dissipate in a few days to a few weeks!. When the dose is increased there may be side effects at first but again these will dissipate and you will find yourself on a level where your "under treatment behaviour" will stabilise!. When this happens you should have full controle as to what and how much you eat!. The drug itself does not cause weight gain!. Some lose weight on effexor and during the clinical studies leading to FDA approval most patients complained more about weight lose than weight gain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
