There is a lot of good information you can read about schizophrenia, and other disorders as well!. These are excellent reading:

The first and last websites have booklets you can download and print off if you'd like!. They are all very good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think the important thing to remember is that there are not only some very good medications out there today to treat schizophrenia, but some excellent programs which support recovery!. Even if you did develop this disease, it isn't entirely hopeless!. Medical science is developing better medication all the time!.
It does sound like you may have a genetic predisposition to this disorder!.!.!.!.!.which doesn't mean that you will get it!. Please remember though, that because you have this predisposition, you can lessen the risk by NOT doing drugs, or excessive alcohol etc!. Sometimes these things can trigger the onset of Schizophrenia!. Also, learn how to deal with stress, maybe attend a class on this!. These things will hold you in good stead!. In other words, be kind to yourself and give yourself all the chances you can to stay healthy!. Best wishesWww@Answer-Health@Com

It isn't a given you will get it (schizophrenia), but it isn't anything you can control!. Medication can help many people, but usually the problem is that they don't think they have a problem and therefore won't take meds!. Your cousin would benefit by seeing a therapist!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's quite scary, imagine muttering to yourself and hearing voices pop out of nowhere!. I would talk to doctors or search online to see the percentage of the likely hood of it being passed down!. Even if you develop them there's medication and counselors that you can talk to!. Try to keep a positive outlook, just because most of your family had them doesn't mean you will!. Try to address the problem to your parents!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Schizophrenic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a 10% chance that you will end up with some mental disorder, not necessarily schizophrenia or bipolar disorder!. It does have a genetic component but also has to do with whether or not you use drugs and the environment you grew up in!. You can find some useful information on it on the SAMSHA website!. I will put the link below, have to find it!. Also, you could have started to show signs as young as 5 years old, it doesn't always start in your 20's!. Woman sometimes have a later onset, as late as their mid 30's but I don't think worrying about it will help!. Learn what you can about the signs and just be self aware!. You may not inherit it at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may be genetically at risk for the development of schizophrenia or a similar neuropsychiatric disease if many of your relatives have gotten a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder!. (Having a genetic risk does NOT mean that you definitely will get a disease but that your chances of getting it are higher than another person)!. All you can do is have a good doctor who is aware of the situation and who will regularly evaluate you or refer to a specialist in neuropsychiatry for evaluation to make sure you stay healthy, and also to counsel and educate you about schizophrenia, and to start treatment as soon as possible if signs and symptoms do show up!.

As for your cousin, many people in whom neuropsychiatric or emotional problems develop have history of some kind of childhood abuse--but it probably depends on how the person dealt with the situation all along!. If he or she acknowledged what happened and got past it, they probably won't be as psychologically affected as someone who was in denial and lived with folks who were in denial about it or had other neurotic things going on in their lives!. YOu and your cousin might want to speak with a physician or a mental health professional about these issues!. That you're thinking about these things perhaps shows that no!.!.!. you're not "crazy"; you're thinking about how to help yourselves given what you know about your circumstances!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to find out if it is a genetic disorder!. It could be!. If your grandma is one and your mom isn't then there is a good chance you wont be!. There would be a slim chance anyways if your mom was a schizo!. You know, the more you stress about it, the bigger chance you get it!. My Professor is a Dr of psychology and he ad patients who were Dr!.s of psychology in a mental hospital!. It is called "student syndrome"!. This is when you start to notice small symptoms of a disorder and begin to believe you have it!. You then begin to learn the disorder and act upon it!. Personally, my best advice to you would be to talk to a counselor!. Just tell them your fears!. They will knock those ideas right out of your head!. You are a healthy 20 year old who needs to be living your life instead of being scared of turning out a certain way!. The scarer you are and the more you "wait" for it to happen, it will!. So stop it right now!. Yes, there are genetics to it, but it is very rare and can be treated if you catch it in time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
