There is quite a bad one against schizophrenia!. I have schizophrenia and I function moderately well now that my meds dose has been stabilised!. If the girls at school were to know I have schizophrenia, their parents would campaign to have me removed from the school!. I am also expecting future discrimination at work and insurance companies getting stroppy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh, there is alot of stigmas surrounding mentally ill people and its getting worse all the time!. A couple of years ago in Miami, a bipolar man who ran out of his medication went running through an airport terminal screaming that he had a bomb, his wife was telling the undercover officers that he had no bomb, he was bipolar and off his meds, they shot and killed him anyway!. When something like this happens, it makes the whole country think that bipolar people are absolute nutcases! I, myself am bipolar!. Everytime a crime is committed and they say that the criminal had a mental condition, I cringe and hope that they don't say he/she was bipolar!. Many people without mental conditions commit crimes everyday, but when a person with a mental condition commits a crime, people say things like, "Oh, he/she was a nut/crazy person/basket case/etc!."

To me it seems as though people still don't accept the different disorders!. I have D!.I!.D!.!. My 22 year old son has been diagnosed with Aspergers Disorder and H!.F!.A!. ( high functioning autism ) I was diagnosed in 92 and my son in 04!. I am still very reluctant to be open about it because of people's reaction's, but over the years ( and with counseling ) I have learned to talk about whenever necessary, for yourself or others!. I come from a family background that has always accepted counseling as a worthy cause if needed and because of that and my son's issues I do what I have to do and let people react as they may!. I don't lie or try to explain why we ended up this way!.!.!.sometimes it just happens and hopefully as time goes by people in general will be more accepting of all types of mental illness, just as we have had to become aware of so many things that happens to us, but still makes us human!. I think it is so unfortunate that this problem even exists as widely as it does, but I know things only change one step at a time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so!. There is no one on this planet who is 100% sane so enjoy yourself as you are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
