My 12 yr. old daughter has been put on lexapro and i am not sure it is the right!

Question: My 12 yr!. old daughter has been put on lexapro and i am not sure it is the right choice!?
Our family has been going through some really rough times-her dad an i have been divorced for 9 yrs, but we countinue to have custody issues!. it effects her very negatively, and she claims she is really depressed!. she does not present as a depressed person, however!. she is fine @ her friends, grades are good, etc!. i am not sure pills are the answer- i think pre-teens is a time when one needs to learn to feel all sorts of emotions and not have them masked by meds!. Am i wrong and what should I do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

wow, that is a young age to be on a med like that!. You might want to get a second opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with you!. The teen years are "dark" years emotionally but perhaps that's to teach kids how to deal with what's coming in ife!.

I wouldn't want my teen "numbed out" with medications I think this would be crippling them emotionally!.

Hope you can figure out what is best for your daughter!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with you 100% and I feel that doctors rush to medicate for the wrong reasons!. I worry about the side effects for lexapro as there is stated incidence of suicide for teenagers while using it!.
Good luck and I hope you are able to sort this out without too much turmoil for you and your daughter!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

your right about pre teen feeligns, but what she is feeling might be more then that!. a lot of people can hide mental iillness very well!. esp depression, she might already be embarrassed about it!. if you were to cut in and force her to talk about it, or force her to stop taking medication she might need it might make the situation worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you do not feel lexapro is the right choice, you are not obligated to keep her on meds!.

Look into a good therapist!. Talk therapy works well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lexapro in not good for children
Omega 3 the the one high in DHA and low in EPH 500mg morning and 500mg night with food can help over time and is so much better and saferWww@Answer-Health@Com
