What is the best way to support someone you know with bipolar?!

Question: What is the best way to support someone you know with bipolar!?
So something random happened with a friend who had mentioned before in passing something about being misdiagnosed as bipolar, so I've been doing some reading up on bipolar disorder and the behaviour fits!.

The rushed thoughts and speech, the negative talk, insomnia, days of hyper overly-excited behaviour and then days of!.!. well, wouldn't see him for a month, heavy alcohol and closet drug use in spurts, denial that anything is wrong and other things that have clicked into place!. I never took it seriously before because I thought he was just an individual guy who had some issues!. Now I am worried that I was not more understanding and supportive than I could have been!.

What can I do to be supportive!? I don't know what methods are used to help bipolar sufferers in times of depression and mania!. Is there anyone out there with bipolar people in their lives that can share their experiences on this!? I would really appreciate any feedback, thank you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My son was diagnosed in September with Bipolar with Manic tendencies!. He went up to school in Oswego and in rather short order, dropped out of school, got kicked out of the frat house, opened up a store, exhausted his life savings and attempted to walk home some 450 miles carrying a drawer full of wires while chanting how he was going to take over the world!.

He was in denial for months and its still in question whether he is still in denial!. While bipolar illnesses are not cureable they are treatable!. Therapists and physiciatrists can now prescribe meds to stablize the moods!. The problem is that every one is different and its really tricky to get on the right mix of meds for that individual person!. Once thats achieved, a bipolar can live a normal life!. Theres always the distinct possibility that the meds stop working in which case, you have to start all over again getting on the right mix of meds!. Its hard but if you can just be patient with your friend, things might fall into place!. Understand that it is NOT easy and sometimes VERY frustrating with the trial and error of some of the meds!. Good luck to you!. I wish you and your friend the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

One of my closest friends is bipolar!.I dont know if I can shed any light on your situation, but I can tell you what we did!. His story is very similar to the one you mentioned!. We tried sitting him down and talking to him when we thought his mood had stabalized!. We explained that there was nothing wrong with him, he was just ill and needed to take some medication and he would feel alot better!. He ignored us so we talked with his family who basically told us to mind our own business!. I tracked down his doctor and was able to have a meeting with him to see what he thought we should do!. It took a lot of tears on my part, but we were finally able to convince him that we'd stand beside him and get him the help he needs!. His doctor sat down with us and explained everything in great detail!.!.!.trying to make it less scary!. He finally agreed to get the help and today he's happy and healthy

best of luck to you and your friendWww@Answer-Health@Com
