Answers:
i used to have rituals!. they sometimes came and went!.
my rituals:
re- entering doors
re- grabbing things
touching things for no apparent reason
re- reading certain parts of a book
not stepping on cracks
re- praying my evening prayers
not touching my right ear
washing hands compulsively
turning on and off the tv

how has this affected my life!? i would get anxious more often and take longer with daily errands and work!. i saw a lot of things as dirty and really didn't want to catch anything (diseases, sicknesses)!. ocd even sometimes even stopped me from doing things i wanted to do!.
am i doing anything for my disorder!? since i don't do these rituals anymore, what i did to stop was just simply stopped!. i told myself nothing bad would happen if i did stop!. it was tough doing this, but yes, nothing bad did even happen!. since everything seemed to go alright, i quit all these rituals!. but to be honest, i think it comes and goes!. i still don't feel comfortable touching my right ear and sometimes re-read things, but that's pretty much it!. i told myself that i was ridiculous doing those rituals and that it shouldn't control my life!. so that's pretty much how i dealt with ocd!. i hope this helps for your paper!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, I have mild ocd!. I have to count to three with my eyes closed before turning out a light!. I have done this ever since I was a young child!. I have tried to stop several times but with no avail!. Also, if I turn 360 degrees i must turn back the opposite way!. Another 'habit' is grouping items, either by colour, alphabetical order or size, it must be done or i simply cant function!. I have had various counseling sessions over the years, but ocd is part of me, i cant seem to shift it!. Apparently,it is a learned behaviour and a coping mechanism, i need to unlearn my behaviour and learn new coping mechanisms, so my ocd becomes a thing of the past!.
Hope this helps, if you need anymore info, just ask!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have ocd!. It affects my life by having the intrusive thoughts causing a major distraction, and they tend to come into my head without warning!. Those with ocd tend to have a great deal of anxiety from the thoughts (obsessions) and tend to perform some sort of ritual (compulsion) such as handwashing or checking the stove to make sure that it's turned off!. These things are usually done to help prevent some sort of 'catastrophe' such as a dreaded disease or house fire as examples!.

I take the ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) anti-depressant "Prozac Weekly" which has been fairly new in the last 6-7 years as opposed to the original Prozac daily!. Just fyi, the ssri's are supposed to work by helping the serotonin, a neurotransmitter/chemical messenger to "reuptake" at the proper time!. (Other ssri's include paxil, zoloft and celexa albeit celexa is supposed to work a slightly different way than the other ssri's according to the literature!.) Those with ocd that take the Prozac Weekly need to do so at least 2x a week, if not 3 such as myself :) I also received cognitive-behavioral therapy from a clinical psychologist (Ph!.D) who specialized in treating those with anxiety disorders!.

There are some great books on ocd, one called 'Brainlock' by Jeffrey Schwartz, MD and 'Stop Obsessing!' by Edna Foa and that one goes into great detail about cogntive-behavioral therapy for those with ocd!. One should not attempt to diagnose themselves or self-treat and instead use any book as an adjunct to therapy ;)

I have OCD and I am 44!. My husband has had to take the tweezers away from me or I will not have any eyelashes or eyebrows left!. I will write something in pencil in my planner book at work and then erase it two times, every time I write in pencil!. One of the worst things that really bothers me is when I get something on my shirt!. If I can see it, so can everyone else!. I have been known on almost every occasion this has happened to go and buy a new shirt!. If the shirt comes out of the washer/dryer and I can see any kind of stain, it goes into the trash!. I take medication, but the medication doesn't fix everything!. Somedays are worse than others and I just smile through the tears!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
