Question: ATTN: Psychologists, how can i help my dad!?
my dad has pshycosis and severe depression with suicidal impulses!. he is in jail and on a hunger strike!. the past five years have been heck!. the reason he's in jail is because he tried to blow up my house with him inside it!. my parents got a divorce shortly before the incident last year because of his anger!. i am at my wits end and i have tried everything!. he dont feel like anything is wrong and he wont go to a doctor!. i have studied psychology for five years but i am still in high school!. i am seriously to the brink that he makes me want to kill myself!. his lawyer wont let me talk to him and my dad hates everyone else and the rest of the world!. Staying away from your father is the best thing for family and yourself!. Your father is very unstable and I think he might have clinical depression, but he also might have schizophrenia!. I am surprised that he hasn't been committed seeing that he is a danger to himself and others!.I live in Canada but I think the law applies to everywhere, that if a family member, especially a spouse, believes that their loved one is very disturbed and in danger of hurting himself or others that they can contact a mental institution, have someone come and evaluate them and have them committed!. Seeing that your father is already in prison, have your mother talk to the prison psychiatrist and ask if they have committed instead of prison!.
Now, you should talk to your school counselor because this all must have been very traumatic and you need some support right now!.You can't control what is happening to your family!. It's up to the courts now!. I would be surprised if he isn't going to be institutionalized!.
You sound like you are in a depression right now and it has support groups for kids like you, whose parent is ill!.

I wnet through a similar situation with an ex of mine!. The best thing you can do is get in touch with the prison that hes in and see if they can get him some form of help or you can contact your own lawyer and see about getting him commited, that way he can get help even if he does refuse!. If that doesnt help then there is nothing you can really do and there is no need for you to worry about him!. you have your whole future ahead of you and jail may be the best place for him so he wont do any harm to your family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
1st you need to move in with your mom, secondly why is he not committed to a phyc ward!? you can have him committed since he has proved to be harmful to himself & others they will then medicate him in there and when/if he gets releases he should be put on a manditory phyciratric check up every so often!. but honestly the most important thing right now is to get your butt over to your moms and not to live with him if he gets out without getting help then it is a matter of time before he kills the both of you! I am not a psychologist but i do work in the criminal justice system and a Christian!. I believe that your father is in spiritual bondage!. Without using worldly psycho-babble, your father's problem is "s-i-n"!. He does need counseling but he needs Jesus in his life!. He needs deep spiritual healing from what has happened to him when young probably mistreatment by father or mother!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
