When I was a kid, I was in the same boat you're in now!. I wrote my papa a letter!. I told him that smoking was bad, and that I loved him & wanted him to live a long life!. Shortly after, he quit!. He'd been smoking for nearly 50 years! Found out after he died, that he STILL had that letter!. He had sooo many medical problems, and emphysema was one of them!.

There is actually a commercial on RIGHT NOW about quitting!.

Good luck to you both!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a smoker as well, and can tell you from personal experience, quitting feels almost impossible! BUT, now I'm on the medication Chantix for quitting smoking!. I've been on it for 1 week now, and already am down to only 4 cigarettes a day! It really curbs the urges, nic fits, and withdrawals! I think by next week I'll be down to none!. It's been great, aside from a little dizziness and nausea here and there!. It was bearable!. I have a few acquaintances who have been smoking for about 40-50 years, they took Chantix and quit pretty easily!. This stuff is very effective, I highly recommend it! It's like a magic pill! Have him ask any of his doctors for a prescription!. It's pretty expensive, but most insurance companies cover it!. If not, the manufacturer Pfizer offers a few assistance programs!. The bad thing about it is, if you have underlying mental conditions such as depression, it exacerbates it!. That's why you may hear some hype about it!. If your grandfather doesn't have any of that, he should be just fine!. His doctor should know if he'll be alright on it!. I think the page is down right now, but check out chantix!.com and show your grandfather!. It's so much harder for older people to quit, this stuff ought to really help him out!. Good luck, and I hope it works out for the both of you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Show him you love him no matter what!. Ask him to do things with you that make smoking difficult, like cutting out shapes to use in a craft project, going for a walk together, playing catch!. Give him suckers and other things like that to help him with the craving for something in his mouth!. But mostly, just love him no matter what!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

help him find something that he can replace a ciggarete with!. examples, gum, pretzles, a shower, watching a movie, talking to someone on the phone, any thing that would distract him so that he isn't thinking of the craving of a ciggareteWww@Answer-Health@Com

i agree with the lady that said she wrote her papa a letter--you can;t do any better than thatWww@Answer-Health@Com

Your Grandpa will quit when he is ready!.!.!.I am sorry!. Best of luck to you and your family!. kjlWww@Answer-Health@Com
