Answers:
Sounds like you've had a tough run!. Depression is an illness that can certainly get worse, and if not treated properly, will not get better!. Medications like duloxetine may be helpful in some people, and not in others!. That's why it's most important that you trial a medication and see if it works for you!.

Duloxetine falls under the category of drugs known as SNRIs (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), which is a type of antidepressant!. There are many other types of antidepressant drugs, however, namely SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), TCAs (tricyclic antidepressants), and so on!. The safest ones are usually SNRIs and SSRIs - namely because it's very difficult to overdose on these!. I have seen patients whose medications stopped working for them months / years into their course, and they've had to be switched over!. But don't worry, there are many other antidepressants which you can try still - it just takes some time to find the one that works best for you!.

Try visiting your doctor and tell them that duloxetine is not working for you, and request for a different drug!. But give it a few weeks - it takes time for these drugs to take effect!. The other thing to do is to have a buddy you can talk to - drugs alone do not do the trick! You have to make sure that you have good support networks to help you through this tough time!. If you're finding it hard to talk to someone, try a counsellor / psychologist - they can give you a helping hand up!.

If you're a student, many campuses / schools have counselling services which you would be entitled to should you feel the need for it!. If you are working, many companies can help recommend you someone to talk to!.

Hope this helps - and just remember to hang in there!. It's never worth it to go through things like suicide!

Everyone is different mentally!. Since you have gone through terrible events recently you will probably be worse for a while, it will get better but it takes time, which is the unfortunate part!. You could ask your doctor for a stronger prescription or to be switched to another anti-depressant!. There are always options for medicine in the mental health racket!. I personally do not find them useful but I am well aware that many people are worse off than me!. But as with all depressing scenerios, time heals it, unfortunately there is no way to speed it up, but you will get better, it just won't happen over night!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think your pills are working!. Try something else!. I am on Cipralex (sold as Lexapro in the US) and I found it to be a god send!. It takes a couple of weeks to adjust to it, but when you do it is worthwhile!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey girl, chin up, okay!?

I struggled with self-harming for over ten years!. I feel you!.!.!. it's rough!. It's actually one of the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed conditions!.

There are A LOT of books on the topic!. One of the things that brought me through my depression, anxiety, and helped with the urge to self-harm was just learning!.!.!. learning all I could about it!. Also, it helped to write!.

None of the (tons of different) medications they put me on worked for me!. I hope it's different for you!.!.!. but if you feel the medication is not doing you any good, let your doctor know!. Some can make you worse and increase suicidal urges!.
