thanks for looking!. i have been on lexapro for anxiety in the past but don't really want to go back on it right now since i don't have the anxiety all the time as i used to!. however, i still have panic attacks occasionally!. i'm wondering if there are any drugs that can be taken at the time of a panic attack to prevent them!. so, just taking it when it is needed instead of everyday!.
i've looked quite a bit but haven't found anything like this!. any help would be much appreciated!!

I also have a Xanax prescription for emergency panic attacks!. I take it at a certain level of anxiety, before it becomes a full blown attack - I'm really careful not to be too dependent on it for the normal anxiety waves that go away on their own!. It's best to take only half (of a !.25 mg dose) if you feel one coming on until you know how it will affect you!. The first time I took it, I only took a quarter of a dose and I feel asleep right away (I'm very sensitive to medications)!. But it's extremely effective, I highly recommend it!.
I should mention that the one huge warning with Xanax is that it will potentiate with alcohol, meaning if you drink while you're on it, you have about a 1/10 chance of dying!. They magnify each other!. Anxiety is caused by an overactive amygdala in the limbic system, which Xanax will help specifically control!. Alcohol will also slow down the amgydala (along with a hundred other things), and if your limbic system shuts down completely, your body will no longer carry out basic functions like breathing!. If you take a Xanax!.!.!. Do!. Not!. Drink!.
If you don't want to use a prescription medication or if you need something sooner than you can see your doctor, you can try taking a Benadryl or any antihistame during a panic attack!. Anxiety involves a lot of histamine in your body chemistry, and a benadryl will slow you down and help you relax!. If you've ever taken one because of allergies, you might have noticed that it tends to make people in a normal state of mind sleepy!. It won't be nearly as effective as a prescription, but it might be enough for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know if Xanax works for an actual panic attack but it does work on anxiety!. It is a take it as you need it drug!. It gives relief without staying in your system or serious side effect if not taken!. Klonopin is a medication that has to be taken constantly!.!.!.but it also works well, keeping you at a steady level!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
