First of all, the majority of anti-depressants have not been around long enough to know the long-term effects in terms of years that you are asking!.!.!.so for anyone to suggest that they do/could cause alzheimer's or death is innacurate!. Secondly, it is very unlikely that anyone would get Alzheimer's until they were very much older (and research is supportive that the elderly is the greatest population suffring from both depression and suicide)!. The question is, do you want to enjoy your productive and fertile life!? Or suffer so that when you will probably get Alzheimer's anyway at the age of 80-100 you will have nothing happy to look back on!. As we age, our brain atrophies (shrinks, loses areas)!. It has not been proven what exacly causes this or who is at risk for it!.!.!.the only common link is being elderly!. Prozac has been round now for about 30 years!.!.!.it is still prescribed and has no history of causing any damaging brain deficiencies due to taking it!. As for the newer medications!.!.!.the jury is still out- but many are much more effective, with less side-effects, or quicker acting!. So, it's really a personal choice!.!.!.you don't have to be suicidal to need anti-depressants!.!.!.you just have to weigh your options and decide how "happy" you are and if your "quality" of life is satisfactory now!. Later it won't matter- if you are miserable on the road to getting to old age!.

I suggest talking to a physician, a family practitioner can have knowlege in this area, if you don't trust the motives of those in the mental health profession!. They can give you insight into the drugs that have been around a while, any long-term effects that have been reported (if any) and the benefits of taking the meds!. Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am on anti-depressants because i was suicidal!. i am afraid to go off of them because even with them i am crying at least 2 times a week!. I really dont care about the long term effects on me because without them, there wont be a long term!. If you are afraid about the long term effects and you are not in extreme need for the drugs, then dont take them and find other ways to make you happier!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They do have long term damaging effects b/c like all drugs the human body eventually becomes dependent on them!. Example: caffeine, crack!. Try to stay off of them!. Exercise releases a natural antidepressant that doesn't involve any dependency so you could try that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you can live without then dont take them!.
They are a huge money spin for these pharma giants !!
Yes the tablets have helped people, but they also kill !!
Doctors are handing them out like smarties but they only mask the problems they DO NOT cure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
