What are the chances of someone with Schizophrenia to snap and become violent?!

Question: What are the chances of someone with Schizophrenia to snap and become violent!?
Answers:
No more so than a so called "normal" person snapping and becoming violent! Schizophrenia has had a bad press!. They are no more violent than any one else!. In fact as one I tend to become quiet and withdrawn when experiencing hallucinations as I'm trying to figure out where they're from and how they arise,

Schizophrenia is not a single disease but a spectrum of disorders!. It is so misunderstood and the info in gossip about it is abysmally wrong!. Type "schizophrenia" into Yahoo! web search for more info on it!. Wikipedia has a good summary!.

Good luck with any schizophrenics you know, good mental health, peace and Love!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's a rather general question!. That's like asking "What are the chances of someone with diabetes is going to get woosy!?"
or
"What are the chances of someone with heart problems to snap and die on the spot!?"
You have to look at the individual!. Has he/she been diagnosed or are you assuming that the he has the disease!? Does he take medications regularly!? Does he have a history of fits!? How bad are the fits when they happen!?

Since Schizophrenia has many different ranges of intensity, there is no general way to answer your question!. Most people with it lead very normal lives and do well in society!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most people with Schizophrenia, even when experiencing a psychotic episode, are not violent!. When someone with Schizophrenia does become violent it is almost always because they are not taking medications and are experiencing certain symptoms such as severe paranoid delusions or "command" auditory hallucinations!. Many studies have shown that schizophrenic patients are no more violent than the general population!. Some studies have even suggested that schizophrenia sufferers are less violent than the general population because many tend to be withdrawn, apathetic and passive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A great many people with schizophrenia never "snap" b/c their disorder is well controlled with medications!. However the media would like us to believe that all people with a mental illness are likely to become violent and go on wild killing sprees!. A great many of very famous people who have done great things for the world have a mental illness!. I have Bipolar Disorder, have three college degrees and am completing a Masters currently while working full time as a senior member of my dept!. Many people function just fine, but need to have proper health care!. If you have a specific concern I would contact NAMI for more information, and what signs to watch for to determine if a person has stopped taken medication!. NAMI is the National Alliance for Mental Illness, and if you do not have center near you go online!. Their services are free!. Good Luck with whatever you are dealing with, but if you think someone is likely to become violent you need to remove yourself from that situation, and notify someone if you have credible reasons to be concerned!.!. such as knowing they have stopped taking their meds and are starting to act bizarrely and doing some things that appear dangerous to themselves or others!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my old best friend is schizophrenic and it was a terrifying experience

i think it's because he had an extreme case, but he would call me screaming at me and imagined things were following him!. he had panic attacks in the middle of the night and thought he heard voices!. right now he's at the ucla psych ward, but to answer your question, there are good chances of someone snapping with schizophreniaWww@Answer-Health@Com
