Do you think neurologists despise their patients for behaviors elicited by a brain tumor!? Do you think speech therapists mock the stutters of people who come from help!? Did you have a bad experience with a shrink, or is your opinion based on cartoons and TV shows!?

I don't know what you think a shrink is, but neither psychiatrists nor psychologists consider OCD a medical rarity, a latent manifestation of Freudian conflicts, or a trivial condition!. It's a debilitating anxiety disorder that can corrode your relationships, sabotage your career hopes, and consume your thoughts and time as surely as it isolates you!.from other people!.

The longer it goes untreated, the more likely it is to become chronic, the worse it becomes, and the glitch in the neuronal circuits associated with OCD becomes a six-lane roundabout with no off-ramps!.

A psychiatrist prescribes drugs, and a general description of your symptoms will suffice for the diagnosis!. You don't need to pour your guts out as soon as you walk in the office!. !.He's not going to demand you confess the disturbing thoughts that haunt your consciousness or require you to detail the rituals you've acquired to beat down the thoughts and !.forestall the consequences!.

Drugs that increase the amount of serotonin in the brain can help alleviate the anxiety and symptoms, but behavioral therapy is considered a vital component of treatment!. Essentially, you've developed a phobia -- you're suffering from a crippling fear of your own thoughts!. A person with a phobia of spiders or heights can avoid or escape those external triggers, but the harder you try to block out these thoughts you hate, the more frequent, intrusive, and disturbing they become!.

The primary techniques used in psychology to treat OCD are similar to those used to treat phobias!. You will not be lying on a couch, pondering whether your fear of spiders represents a repressed hatred of your mother's moustache!.

What should you do!? Bite the bullet, see a doctor, set up an appointment with a psychologist, and proceed with the conviction that you can beat this condition!. Best wishes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know where but I have heard there is therapy over the phone or internet!. Because some people are to afraid to leave there house to even go to therapy!. Look this up online and call around!. If you can somehow get the courage I think you should go but not for your boyfriend but to get better!. These therapists have seen basically everything!. I think therapy will really really help you!. Can you atleast go once and try it!? If not look into where you don't have to leave the house therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you did see a shrink under the NHS it would take a while to have your first appointment so perhaps you could make the appointment knowing it is there and in advance if you change your mind!. Then in the mean time you could use some of the ideas suggested about contacting Samaritans via email when you need to or ringing a help line etc!. That way you have the option ready!. Because it takes so long to get an appointment then you might want to have it booked ready incase you decide through the help of these other support agenceys to go - you dont have to say yes and go but incase you decide you do want to it is all set up for you and you wont have such a long wait!. Why not have your boyfriend go with you to your first few sessions to support you and help you explain the situation!. If you are lucky enough to find the right person to council you you wont feel like you are a science experiment or being judged they are in theory there to help and not to judge and they have probably seen it all before and know what to do to help you!.!.!.!.!.!.I dont think that it is experimental anymore more just common practice and talking and problem solving!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
