Question: Panic Attacks: what can you talk about with someone suffering one, to take their mind off it!?
My BF suffers panic attacks (he hates it, makes him feel so unmanned but he can't control them), when we go on planes or in crowds he suffers them, he says it helps to talk about something else to stop from focusing on it!.!.!.
Topics!? I just want to prepare early cause sometimes my mind will just freeze and draw a blank!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can really relate to you BF, and I am blessed with a good husband, and you seem to really want to help you BF!. I personally take medication, but when a severe attack is coming on, if we are about to drive over a big bridge or go on a plane, I always try to have activities to keep me occupied, puzzles, games!. About what to talk about with your BF, why not ask him when he is not anxious!? he would be the best one to answer this!. I know it helps me to talk about favorite memories from college, family stories he never heard before, anything that will get me talking!. I think it is much harder for a man to suffer, women will get help more often!. If you fly regularly, he may want to consider a medicine!. Even Benadryl can take the edge off!. Aside from what topics he may offer you, think about subjects that will draw his energy, politics, reality tv, sports!.!.!.perhaps something you had a heated debate about in the past!.!.just make sure it is nothing that you fought about in the relationship!. P!.S!. There is an excellent book by Jerilyn Ross, I can't think of the name of it, but it has wonderful strategies for sufferers and their supports!. For example, coming up with "outs", like in a crowd, knowing where the exits are!. The outs can be extreme, like when flying in the US you are no more than 20 min from a landing space-however, the theory is as long as the person knows they have an out, they probably wont need to use them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

weather a new song or something he is interested in something from the paper you read every day or tell him you like His shoes where did he buy them or who got them for him compliment if you have trouble finding a topic it will buy you moment to come up with something!. Everyone needs a friend like you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I learned to control my panic attacks and no longer experience them!. It is all about breathing!.and distracting your brain for the panic!. Self talk helps!. Positive self talk!. Slow deep breaths and slowly exhales!. It is good to have your brain occupied with other things!. A hand held game!. Reading!. counting something!.
Never let your inner self say negative things like!.!.!.!.!.!.I can't breath, there isn't enough air!." Never ever give in to those wrods!.
Even if you don't believe it now fake it until you make it!. Tell yourself that you are safe!. xWww@Answer-Health@Com
