Forcing myself to eat?!

Question: Forcing myself to eat!?
i've been very depressed for a long time, thoughts of inadequacy and the like!. for some strange reason i try to compensate for that by forcing myself to eat until i feel very sick!. i just keep eating in order to sense some kind of pleasure, but i don't so i just keep eating!. as a result of eating so much i have gained weight significantly and i feel very unattractive!. yet i keep doing this to myself as though i'm punishing myself for being a failure!.

i don't ever throw up though, because i don't like the feeling!. ( i am NOT bulimic/anorexic) is there a name for this psychological condition!? it's really bothering me, i'm afraid i'm well on my way to becoming overweight!. (strange part is i've been underweight all my life until depression took over)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I am sorry you have been feeling this way!. Eating is one way to relieve depression, but as you said, it's not a healthy way!.

When you are depressed, your brain has less seratonin in it, and seratonin is what elevates your mood!. The anti depressants raise you levels of seratonin over time!.

If you refuse to take the meds, you can still get some counseling, and you can also raise your seratonin levels by exercise!. Exercise has the same effect as the antidepressants in making more endorphins ( mood elevator chemicals) in your brain!.

Exercising will also have the added benefits of helping you lose weight and if you exercise by running in nature, this too will be an added mood elevator!.

Next, volunteer for helping with projects like Habitat for Humanity!. You will get really involved I promise you, and you will meet the best people there!.

Please try these and let us know what happens!.
The best of luck to you!

Sounds like you use food as a comforter!. Talk to people about you are feeling instead of feeling this need to eat!.
I would also suggest seeing your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The idea is to become a grazer, eating mostly low calorie/kilojoule foods, and having several mealtimes, well spaced apart, so you never get hungry!.

Go to: h t t p : / / c h o o s e d i e t !. b l o g s p o t !. c o m (you should type it in the usual manner) and select one, possibly changing, later!. Eat 6 - 8 small meals, daily, with a little protein in each, preceded 20 minutes earlier with a large glass of water: this speeds up weight loss!. Snack on any amount of celery sticks, with the occasional carrot stick, and/or slices of cucumber, tomato, bell pepper/capsicum, or raw onion, in any vinegar (a little salt & pepper/chilli powder is OK, but no oil, or sugar! Rinse your mouth with water, later, if using vinegar!.

Your body needs a small amount of [ preferably olive, grapeseed, or premium coconut* ] oil, daily, to be healthy: about 2 teaspoonsful, if not getting it in the rest of your food intake already)!. Understand and accept that many people use food in an attempt to fill an emotional void, which is unhealthy, and never works!. Others eat out of boredom, so have plenty of things to keep you occupied!.

Also view hypnotism for weight loss (if fairly suggestible) at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris on page 60!. Put: "nutritional type" in the taskbar, at * http://www!.mercola!.com/ and enter: find out what yours is, and build an eating plan around it for the future: include considerable variety, so that you never get bored with it!. ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ Regularly monitor your internal monologue (self talk): write down the negative ones: "I'm pretty ugly" and then the converse: "I'm fairly good looking", and next time you become aware that you are thinking the former, visualise, as vividly as possible, a big "STOP!!!" sign, and deliberately repeat 5 times, either aloud, in a big voice, if alone, or subvocally (to yourself, in your mind), the converse affirmation!. Habits take about 30 - 40 repetitions to become established, with most people!.

Cease comparing yourself unfavorably with others, using the STOP sign: "I am a unique individual, with potential, and my own set of skills"!. Keep your head up, and look people in the eye!. See self esteem/confidence, in section 38, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris and consider volunteering, even from home, at first!. On volunteering outside the home, you will come into contact with supportive people, and receive positive feedback for your efforts, which will be obviously appreciated: there are many options; one is sure to suit you!. Practise one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed!. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you!.

Section 53, and pages 2, 2!.q and 2!.o at ezy-build also refer!. "Even though I sometimes have low self esteem/confidence, I deeply and completely accept myself"!. Read: "Lift your mood now!." by John D Preston, Psy!.D!. 2001, New Harbinger Publications, Inc!., 5674 Shattuck Avenue, Oakland!. CA 94609 http://www!.amazon!.com/ may be worth trying for this, as it has a good section on building self esteem, using a different approach!. ~~~ Here is an exercise that can help you!. It is called "Act as If!." When you are in a social situation, act as if you are confident, and outgoing!. Talk more, smile at everyone, ask questions, speak in a normal or excited tone, not a meek tone!. Watch some of your outgoing peers, and imitate the style of their social behavior!.

Research shows that when you "act as if" continually, your image of yourself begins to conform to your new behavior!. In this case, you will gain self-esteem and self-confidence!. You will become more socially successful, and this will motivate you to continue your new social behavior until it becomes a habit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
