Hi Claire

I realise how frustrating this must be for you, but try and be thankful that at least you are getting regular appointments!.

Unfortunately the NHS provision for counsellors is sadly lacking, I know in my area it can take as long as 3 years for someone to be given an assessment!. I'm not saying that this is right, as I don't believe it is, I'm just trying to put things into perspective for you!.

To me it seems that you would greatly benefit from having some outside support away from the counselling sessions, that way you can make the most of the appointments you have, but not have to struggle to cope in between them!.

As I'm not sure who referred you for the counselling in the first place I can only offer suggestions: If it was through your psychiatrist then you need to ask if he can arrange some other form of support - he may be able to put you in contact with a CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse), If it was through your GP then again ask what other support can be arranged for you, some surgeries do have CPN's attached to them!.

A suggestion of a place to get support from that is away from statutory services would be your local mental health charity:

http://www!.mind!.org!.uk/Mind+in+your+area!.!.!.

You don't have to be referred by anyone else, you can ring them yourself, and it really does only take a phone call!.

It might help you to know that they are less formal than the health services, but have a great deal of understanding and ways in which they can help you!. You won't be judged and they will be much more accessible than your counsellor!.

I hope some of this proves useful!.

Take care and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with you, that if you feel you need more frequent counselling, then you should have it!.

Sadly, counselling can be like this - unless you can afford to pay!. Counsellors, who work for an organisation, are under pressure and appointments are unfortunately limited!.

I know some private counsellors have a sliding scale and will charge on what a person can afford, although I think that is still pretty costly!.

It seems you can't do very much and I really wish I could offer more helpful advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you need to find a good friend to talk to that you can trust!. Do you have a pet!? Often pets are better for your mental health than people, who can be very egotistical and demanding!. Can you see more than one counsellor!? Perhaps you could phone a counsellor if you really need someone to talk to!. Wish you luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

ask her if there is a trainee counsellor who is attached to the practice who would be able to fit you in weeklyWww@Answer-Health@Com
