Please lets make more intelligent questions!.We don't actually use the term "insane"

You can have a variety of diagnoses that are commonly termed insane, such as schizophrenia or delusional disorder, but each of these have specific criteria that must be met to be given such a diagnosis!.

Most psychiatric illnesses which you might consider to be "insane" feature forms of psychosis!. Psychosis is a mental state severely out of touch with reality!. For example, somone who is psychotic might be seeing or hearing things, or have a belief that someone is out to get them!.

The term psychosis does not apply to psychiatric problems which are merely mood disturbances, such as depression or bipolar illness!.

We also talk about "competence" and "capacity!." Competence is a legal term, where a judge determines that someone does not have the mental faculty to be able to make decisions for him or herself!. Capacity is the ability to understand specific medical information and make an informed decision!. It can also be used to refer to the ability to distinguish right from wrong!. This is what someone undertakes to prove if they are using an insanity defense!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
