How do you make yourself believe talk therapy will work?!


Question: How do you make yourself believe talk therapy will work!?
Hi!. I'm somewhat recently diagnosed with depression!. I've played around and found the right med!.
Now, I guess I have to do the other half and do the therapist thing!.
I've seen 2 briefly in the past, and they were really strange!. One had me drawing pictures of fish (I'm 32!) and the other had hearts and rainbows and Jesus loves you stuff all over her walls!.
Do you really have to shop around for a therapist that much!? And what can I normally expect to talk about!? Are you supposed to draw!?
Nothing bad ever happend to me, I just sort of got this was by genetics I guess!. I would just like to do my best to feel better!.
Please advise!

Yes, you really do have to shop unless you want to do therapy with hearts and flowers or fish!. ;) Really!. Look for someone you are comfortable with and your instincts say knows what they are doing!. From there, mostly you talk about what's on your mind!. Where that goes depends on the type of therapy you are doing!. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is usually a good short course that works on cognitions, assumptions, beliefs and behaviors!. Therapy can be very helpful if you find the right therapist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You sound like an intelligent person and sometimes that can be a stumbling block to treatment!. Some mental health professionals really don't know how to deal with someone on their own level, but you are right to feel condescended to, and you are right to expect better!. Unfortunately shopping around is all part of the wonderful journey that is recovery! Trust me though, when you find someone who respects your intelligence it makes all the difference in the world!.

Yes you have shop around for a good therapist!. And they are hard to find!. I have anxiety disorder and I have seen so many!. They make mountains out of mole hills, some of them!. But if you keep trying you will find the one you need!. I have never been ask to draw!. That sounds like a child thing!. Not something for a 32 year old person!. Therapist are there to talk to you about anything that maybe upsetting you and about your daily life!. And to give advice to help you make your life better!. Helpfully to add prayer too!.( Just my feeling about that!. LOL ) And the therapist should listen to you!.
