Questions about getting help... 10 points?!

Question: Questions about getting help!.!.!. 10 points!?
Can you only answer if you live in the UK or know about the NHS (National Health Service)!. Sorry!.!.!.i just think it's different here than in America or somewhere!.

Ok, well basically i've been self harming for years and have finally decided to get help!.
I'm in the UK so am going to book an appointment with my GP (general practitioner) tomorrow!.

What i'm wondering about is the effects having this on my medical records will have on other things (like insurance and jobs)!.

The reason i ask is because i don't want my parents to know about any of this!. I'm 18 and still live at home and my parents also sort out everything to do with insurance so if there was some sort of impact on that they would wonder why!.

So basically will having self harm on my medical records make insurance increase!? Will this mean my parents will find out!? Will I still beable to keep this from them once i've been to the GP!? If i'm looking for a job will this make them less likely to take me!?

ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
well your parents dont need to know your 18 the doctor has to respect your confidentiality once you turn 16 and you can always lie on insurance and say you never had any mental illnesses i dont think insurance really bother about mental illnesses anyway!. and as for a job you dont have to tell them either that you have been treated for mental problems!. and the doctor will prob refer you to a counsellor and there is a long waiting list on the nhs for them (but in some parts of the uk there isnt so you will have to check out how long you will have to wait of your doctor) you will also have to lie to your parents when you start to see the counsellor if they ask you where you have been!. so if you dont mind lieing to your parents or anyone else then your fine!. xWww@Answer-Health@Com

Good for you for deciding to seek help! I don't know the UK that well anymore, but I doubt whether it's that Orwellian that employers can have access to potential employee medical records!.

Do they ask to see your medical records in an interview over there these days!?

It'll probably be up to you whether or not you want to disclose your problem/diagnosis to them and keep it in mind that you are doing the responsible thing by seeking treatment and that getting better will make you a better employee!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Medical records are kept private!. If you wish to know about your dr's visit appearing on your parents insurance - phone the dr's office and ask about how the visit appears on the insurance!. With some ins!. companies only the visit is recorded, not the reason!. Tell your parents that you went in for a complete physical - !. You felt it was important to start looking after your health now you are 18!.

Self harming will only effect your future if the scars are in visible places like the forearm!. If this is the case, wear long sleeve shirts for job interviews and for the first while with an employer until they get to know you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
