Bipolar and confused?!

Question: Bipolar and confused!?
I'm a 24 year old girl who is living with bipolar disorder and have been medicated for the last year or so!. I've been on Citalopram since my diagnosis but recently took and overdose whilst in the throngs of a serious depression!.
I'm engaged to a wonderful guy, who has been nothing but supportive, but I can't help feeling like he doesn't deserve to live such a chaotic life!. Another thing is that I desperatly want to settle and have a family and while he does too he doesn't think it's a good idea with me being as poorly as I can be at times!. I respect his wishes but it's breaking my heart to think that I may never be a mother or that if I were to have a child it would suffer because it's mother is prone to unstability!. I realise I may be on medication for the rest of my life and it scares me that I may never feel any better than I do right now and so won't ever be 'fit' to start a family!.
I guess I just want some advice if anybody has any!?

Thanks,
Amy xxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
the problem here is that no-one can give you advice in this matter!. it is what i call a "judgement-question" that only you with the help of your psychiatrist or therapist can make!. as far as your meds are concerned you should know that it took my wife who happens to be BP nearly 3 years to find the best suitable combination of medications!. this does not mean that she has nothing to worry about!. it is merely the best combination for the time being but that can change over night!.
allthough it is possible for a BP to have psychotic episodes even though they are on meds but that does NOT mean they are in constant danger of going "of the deep-end"
i find your fiance to be very caring but i strongly dis-agree with him when it comes to starting a family!. there is plenty of help available for any BP!. educate yourself (both of you) through books, websites and visitation with psychiatrists and therapists!. after all, you are only 24 years old and still have time before you start a family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
