Question: Qualifications for admitting someone to a psych ward!?
What the the qualifications for admitting someone to a psych ward!?

My sister is deeply troubled but its hard for us to see!.
My mom and I read her journal occasionally to see how she is doing!.
She said she hates our whole family and she likes to cut herself, drink and do drugs!.
We found cuts on her arms once but nothing else was done about it!.
She is currently going to a therapist but I think she needs more help than this!.
I need advice, please!.
I think she is suicidal, or on the brink of becoming suicidal and I wouldn't put it past her that she could hurt herself!.
She just has so much hatred for my mom and our family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Like others said before, if she is selfharming find out how serious she is about it!. Is there a sign that she wants to kill herself!? If so, you mum could her therapist about it and he would probably hospitalize her!.

But you say she has a therapist but not a psychiatrist - maybe that would be a good first step!. A psychiatrist is more specilized to give her the right medication!. Maybe that should be a step before hospitalizing her!.

You must always imagine her situation too!. If she got forced to go into a psychiatry, she will get drugged up in there, they will do psychoeducation and activities!. That's about it!. Psychiatric hospitals are mainly there to take the patient out of his daily struggles and to minimalize the chances that he will hurt himself through medication and taking away any harming objects!. They won't cure her there!. In worst case, she will be furious about the stay and it will influence her life negatively!.

(I checked myself in the psychiatry in 2005 and I regret it!.)

Try to get her to a psychiatrist first, get her on new medication and in behaviour therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In a situation like this your mom can involuntarily admit your sister to a psychiatric hospital!.It does sound that your sister needs a lot of help to get her depression under control!.!.You should also get her evaluated by a psychiatrist, A therapist/psychologist is mainly someone you can talk to about a problem but they can not do much since he/she can not prescribe medications!. I hope I have helped some!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that once you determine that she is harmful to herself adn others then she should be able to hospitalized!.!. in our area when someone goes to the emergency room and are harmful to there selves and others!.!. they call someone over from the mental health services and they do an evaluation!.!. your sister needs help!.!.!. please get her some,!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. you and your mom can do it!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This may sound a bit extreme, but it worked for me!.

Have your Mother take her to the emergency room!. There she'll be examined by a psychiatrist, and more than likely she'll be admitted in to the psych ward!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When your sister develops an actual plan to commit suicide or harm others then she can be committed!. Why not take her to a therapist for some help!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

If she is a minor your mom can admit her to a program!. either a local hospital or a drug rehab dual diagnosis program!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your mom can get her more help if she is a minor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should not be reading her journal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know what the guide lines are in your state, but where I'm from you have to be able to prove that they are a danger to themselves and you have to go before a judge to ask for a court order!. Call a local crisis center and ask them what to do, they'll be able to tell you straight out so you can do it on a moments notice if you need to!.

If she is suicidal and doesn't go on her own, the police would have to take her and you don't always want that scenario, only because she may be taken to the hospital and released the same night!. She needs to go to a mental health facility where they know what they're doing and dealing with and they'll know what's bull and what's not, coming out of her mouth!.
It's a scarey point you're at, and it may get alot worse, but eventually it will get better!.
She's lucky to have you caring about her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
