Question: Can people with schizophrenia lead normal lives, like marry and have kids!?

Those with schizophrenia can marry!. My friend, whose schizophrenia is in remission for about 18 years, is happily married!. however, he is childless!.

There is quite a high chance that schizophrenic parent(s) can pass on this dreadful illness to their offspring, depending on whether both the husband and wife have schizophrenia or one of them have schizophrenia!.

It is best for the patient to seek the opinions of his psychiatrist!. The psychiatrist would have clarity in his illness and be in the best position to advise!.

My opinions are just general opinions!. Only the doctor is in the best position to advise!.

Those who have schizophrenia in remission can work and have social lives, but they must be careful not to be too stressed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some can, some can't!. It really depends on the person!.

But more than half of the marriages end in divorce now and most of those people don't have schizophrenia!. Many so-called mentally healthy people are seemingly incapable of maintaining a marriage and family life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, this condition has some very good medications now!. But the person must stay on them, that is a problem, when they feel better they stop taking them!.
Schizophrenia can be hereditary about 30%!. You do have a chance that your children will have this illness!. so something for the person to think about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes they can!. Some may choose not to have children for various reasons!. It is well to remember though that medical science is improving the lot of people with mental illnesses all the time!. By the time your children grow up the treatments for this illness will be so much better :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Of course!. But like any other mental illness, they need to stay on their meds; stay in counseling; and do whatever it takes to have a positive inviroment for their family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes,i am married to a paranoid schizophrenic and he is able to do the things he needs to,to keep him stablized!.We just had a wedding anniversary of two yrs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If this disease if caught in time it can be significantly controlled with medication, and it is possible to live a very normal life with a husband or wife and kids!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If they have overcome their fears, then they are "real" schizophrenics!.
If they are scared still, they are wimps!.
But either way, they can live normal lives!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
