I'm just trying to understand?!

Question: I'm just trying to understand!?
My girlfriend has been diagnosed with BPD!. The other day she was supposed to be at therapy but she wasn
Answers:
Was discussing this sort of thing with my therapist just today!. People with BPD historically keep things from people because deep down they feel "flawed" as humans!. Not good enough!. But also, when your history keeps repeating itself over and over with someone you really NEEDED not being there day after day, that's what you expect from people!. So, you build up all kinds of defenses to keep from getting hurt again!. Sound pretty simple, but most of the defense mechanisms are not adaptive- they don't really help because you're not IN the same situation you were in originally!. Letting go of BPD- as your girlfriend says - is like letting go of a whole lifestyle, and you really don't know what's going to replace it!. Anything unknown is scary, but letting go of BPD is SO worth it!. I know- I did it through DBT therapy!. Yes, my brain still works funny, and yes, I still get to some of the places BPD took me, and I always will!. BUT- I know how to get myself back from those places, and I've learned to recognize the difference between the "feelings" that go with BPD and reality!. Reality really is MUCH better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She's safe!. BPD is NOT 'curable'!. At the worst, from her point of view, she will learn tools and take medications that allow her to have more control of the circumstances of her life!.

I am bipolar and at age sixty-one!.!.!. have learned through experience that medication frees me from racing thoughts, suicidal ideation and frees me to be ME!.!.!. without the distractions of my mental illness!. It's a GOOD thing! Just my opinion!. Good luck to you both!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have to understand that she has a mental illness!. It has twisted her thinking!. If she doesn't get the therapy she needs, the mental illness will become worse!.
You are simply going to continue to be hurt if you stay with her but that's your choice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YOU ARE SUCH A SWEET GENTLEMAN FOR STAYING BY HER SIDE! MORE THAN LIKELY SHE DOES NOT WANT HELP BECAUSE IT IS HER REASON TO THE WORLD WHY SHE MUST ACT THE WAY SHE DO!. WITHOUT THAT PEOPLE WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND HER!. BUT WITH THE ILLNESS ,LIKE YOU DID, PEOPLE CAN READ UP ON HER ILLNESS AND KNOW THAT IS THE REASON SHE ACT THE WAY SHE DOES! IT IS LIKE PEOPLE WILL COME TO UNDERSTAND YOUR ALOT EASIER AND BETTER!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is a little bit tricky, i am trying to understand best as i could!.
I am pretty sure she is using her disorder (if she even has one) as an excuse for being different and out there!. Believe me, having a disorder to make your problems excusable is quite an easy thing to do!. It is also easy to make up having a disorder altogether (I am not saying she is)!.

Let your girlfriend know that she is special whether she has her disorder or not!. And best of all she is special to you!. Let her know this is hard on you, but you are not going to give up!. She does have special qualities that no one else in the world has and it's not just because of her "disorder"

I am pretty sure that did not help much, but maybe letting her know the above line would be good!. Sorry i couldn't be of more help but this matter is more complicated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ive got psychotic disorder so i know exactly what your gf is talking about with that quote!.

although with this illness there are alot of bad things, theres also the feeling of power!. She probably feels like she is god sometimes, and i dont blaime her because i feel that way too!.

obviously you really like her so keep doing wat your doing!. Be her boyfriend, not her psychologist unless she wants you to be!.

be careful with research though, you can evolve into obsession and once your mind is concentrated on something for so long, you may develope an illness yourself!.

best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
