Does insurance cover the cost of seeing a psychaitrist or psychologist?!

Question: Does insurance cover the cost of seeing a psychaitrist or psychologist!?
Preferably a psychiatrist!. Also, do psychiatrists offer counseling!? I have seen a psychologist in the past for counseling, but as she couldn't prescribe medication, I had to go to my general practitioner to get a prescription!. That has always kind of bothered me since my GP didn't ask much about my symptoms etc!.!. and they seemed to be kind of blindly guessing about what med would be best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you say nothing of the reason you want to or need to see a mental health professional, so I'm unsure how to answer you!. First a psychologist is not an MD and cannot without a separate license write prescriptions, almost all psychiatrists will listen briefly to your complaint and try some pill or!?!?!?!?!? to relieve whatever symptom you are describing, they are very different schools of thought!. My best advice, if you are in serious danger from this symptom, is to find a clinic that houses both of these forms of practices "there are several in the area" this way one can confer with the other with your permission to what is working or not working for you!. I am a strong believer in that medications alone cannot relieve a person of inner struggle, they can only temporarily change your brain chemistry for good or bad and leave the underlying issues untreated!. Good luck!. oh and yes most insurances do cover mental health issues but be very careful with these people they can and have ruined lives, be selective and direct about what your needs are being vague gives them far more power and being unsettling to them can take take your freedom away!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As far as I know, most medical insurance will cover psychiatric treatment and many will also cover counseling!. Depending on the insurance company, it would probably help if the psychiatrist (or other physician) makes the referral to the counselor!.

Not very many psychiatrists do their own counseling anymore, or the counseling they do is usually brief and not very detailed!. The patient is more likely to be referred to a separate professional who specializes in counseling if the patient requests it or appears to need it!.

The best thing would be for you to ask insurance company!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This depends entirely on what kind of Insurance policy you currently have!. You should have a Tel No to call and ask what is covered and get approval before you see the Psychiatrist,(or read your insurance policy!.) In that way you will not have any surprises, that will incur an out of pocked expense, by calling the Psychiatrist's Office you can find out how much they charge for a visit!. Most health insurance will cover the Psychiatrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Where do you live!?
If you live in Australia and get a referral from your GP a psychiatrist is covered by medicare so you don't have to pay anything (except a gap if they charge more that the medicare fee)!. The first 7 visits to a psychologist is also free under medicare (you just need a referral from your doctor and that's it!)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Psychiatrist, a psychologist can give excellent therapy, but usually isn't allowed to prescribe medication!.!.!.but that is changing soon!.

Psychotherapy, or group counseling can be much more important though!. Never just try to go along the rough sea with only some highly volatile meds!. You also need a counselor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It really depends upon the insurance!. Many do carry mental health coverage!. If not, most cities have some sort of hotline!. You could call it and find where to go where you wouldn't have to pay or could pay on a sliding scale!. If you google it, you would probably find it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

see the psychiatrist and ask your insurance company if it pays for it!.mine does!.and the psychiatrist will advis you on counseling!.good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Depends some do, but most have a limit of the amount that will be covered in a lifetime!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
