How do i tell my parents i want to see a psychiatrist?!

Question: How do i tell my parents i want to see a psychiatrist!?
i know you think i should just go up and ask, but i don't think they'll understand why!. I don't want to tell my parents how i feel and what's going on in my life or mind!. I really want help though!.
I also know that it's going to cost a lot of money, and my family can't pay for that, and they'd want to know exactly why i want to see one!.
i really feel like i should be seeing one, the reasons are too personal, but i don't think my parents would understand!. And we don't have the money!.

someone please help!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your school probably has a counselor on staff!. You can make an appointment with him-or-her to discuss methods of approaching your parents; the counselor will probably invite you to have the conversation there at the school, where the counselor can mediate and help ask questions!. (If the school does NOT have a counselor, the school district certainly will, and your teacher or school nurse can bring the counselor in to meet with you!.)

Some thoughts:
1!.) If you really are going through something and want help, you WILL - no matter what the diagnosis is - WILL need a support network, starting with Mom and Dad!. People weren't meant to face serious problems alone, and trying to makes the problem seem tenfold larger!. The pain of a hard conversation is NOTHING compared to how much easier the healing process will be afterwards!.

2!.) If your family can't pay for counseling, that's usually not a problem!. Many counselors - especially family or children's counselors - have a 'sliding scale,' so the less money the family makes the less they'll be asked to pay!. (One organization that usually offers free or low-cost counseling is Catholic Community Services, and you don't need to be a Catholic to get help there!. In fact, the counseling isn't religious at all - it's offered by the Catholic Church as a service to the greater community!.)

3!.) If your family can't pay for the counseling, another option is Medicare!. It's government health insurance, and most counseling centers have people on staff who specialize in helping new clients fill out the paperwork to enroll!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a list of support hotlines here: http://www!.teenhealthandwellness!.com/sta!.!.!. -- maybe it will help for starters!.

Perhaps if you could be just a little more specific about what's bothering you (e!.g!., depression, drugs, sexual abuse, unplanned pregnancy, verbal/emotional abuse, sexuality), people here could suggest some resources that they've found helpful!.

I think you're correct to think that if you ask your parents about seeing a therapist, they'll want to know why!. But it's only natural for them to be concerned about you! And if you share your concerns with them, they might be able to give you some good guidance!. Also, regarding the issue of money: if your family has health insurance, your policy may cover mental health services!. It's worth finding out, at least!.

Your school guidance counselor could also serve as a starting point!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no way to ask but to ask!. Your parents are your parents, and they have to understand that sometimes things are just a little personal!.!.!.and talking to a complete stranger is sometimes more comforting than confiding in your parents!.

I had a similar issue!. I didn't think my parents would understand, but they surprised me, and they recognized that I was sincere in my request and really wanted help, and they did what they needed to do to get me the help I wanted!.

And I regret nothing!. Talking to a psychologist was a great move!. Just go to them!.!.!.sit them down, and ask!. Be sincere, and let them know that you have things you need to figure out, very personal things that you just can't discuss with them!. Parents are surprisingly understanding in situations you're truly sincere about, they can recognize it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should be straight with them!. Before you do that, do some research first!. There are a lot of places you can go that are no charge!. Find out who your insurance is with (If you have insurance, and if you don't, there are programs for kids to get insurance) Anyways if you have insurance find out where your coverage is for!.!.!.!.

Just be strong and remember you always have to look at for yourself and do what will help you in the future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it is very much a great idea to see someone if you are having some problems you need answers to!. Sometimes a trusted friend who will really listen will help also!.Your parents could check into programs that would benefit you maybe at a low cost!.Also would it help you if one of your parents you can confide in!? Maybe they would be able to assist you with what is going on in your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

find an adult that you can trust and ask them to help you approach your parents--a principal or your clergy might be a good place to start!.
As far as the money and cost are concerned try finding out if your town has a mental health/mental retardation center(mhmr) they should be able to work with your family to help get you the help you need at a price that is affordable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

May I please isn't it!.
Next time you're at your Family Doctor's for a check-up tell the Doctor you want to see a Psychiatrist!. That's what Doctor's are for!. They'll probably give you a listen anyways!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

assuming you are in school!.!.!.why not try a school counselor/guidance or kids help phoneWww@Answer-Health@Com

I remember having to tell my dad I wanted to see one!.
It was the hardest thing to have to ask because I knew that he would be asking many questions!.

Well, I figured I'm not going to give him a riddle to solve!. I have to be straight-forward!. I told him and he asked why I don't just talk to him, and I told him that I just feel I need to see someone who can help!. He continued asking why not him and I just had to tell him I feel he wont understand!.

You have to turn down their suggestion to turn to them!.
(if you don't trust them yet)
Eventually they will just come to the conclusion - yes or no!.
It doesn't matter how you approach them, they will answer you with whatever they want!.
Just remember to be as sympathetic and respectful when you turn down their helping hand!. Just tell them they wont understand and you feel you need help from a person who can help!.

That's the only way I had to tell my dad!.
He got upset that I couldn't talk to him but he agreed because he wanted to help me out any way he can!.

Don't worry too much about the cost!.
Most Psychs are sliding-scale and will work with you and your parents to charge what they could afford!.

If you don't have any severe problems, like psychotic episodes, then I would recommend you see a psychologist (counselor)!.
That way they work with your feelings and not treat you like you have a mental disorder!.

Hope this helps!.
good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
