Question: Is it possible that someone with bipolar who goes off their meds think they are gay!?
2 weeks ago my wife recently went off her meds because of a severe reaction to an increase in one of them!. She has since been staying somewhere else because she thinks she is a lesbian, and says she is not sure if she can play the role of a wife/mother!. No we don not have kids yet!. I feel very strongly that this is all due to her being off medication and it is the illness talking, and not the smart, caring, loving woman I married 1 year ago!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can relate to this from firsthand knowledge!. I may be bipolar or schizoaffective-one of those things, but I guess it doesn't matter cause my meds treat all of them!. Anyways, when I had a psychotic (or mania) episode I changed my sexual orientation to being homosexual!. I can tell you my sex drive went through the roof!. I even went as far as going on an actual date-sheesh!. I was like this for a couple of weeks or maybe even a month!. I came out to my friends!. After my meds kicked in I changed my mind which you really can't go back into the closet without people thinking differently about you!. When I was in the hospital I asked my doc about this and he said that I should just forget about!. My group therapy counselor told me that this is not uncommom when going through such episodes!. Some people may admit it while others may not!. Now mind you I only had "thoughts" of being homosexual when I was going through puberty, but nothing serious until my illness kicked in!.
So if this is due to your wife being off meds the only advice I can give you is to swade her to get back on them!. I know when I go off my meds all hell breaks loose!.

the mind is a wonderfull but also terrifying thing within itself!. the question here arises: did your wife has had same-sex expieriences before you met or has she ever expressed to you the desire to be wiht a woman!?!?!? without reason she would not all of the sudden say she things she IS a lesbian!. she did the worse thing one can do: stopped taking her meds!. she (you) should have immidiatly gone to the doc or the hospital to find the reason for the reaction and/or change the meds right away!. since your wife suffers from BP she is prone to doing things that make little or no sence to anyone else and in her own mind she thinks it is real!.
try to get her to the doc and/or the hospital for observation and to get her back on meds!. otherwise you will loose this battle and ultimatly her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Could have a lot to do with it!. She desperately needs to be put on a different med that will help her!. Tell her you love her, and want the woman you married back, tell her you will go to the doc with her, support her, and you will be there for her through everything!. Hopefully she will go and things will be OK for you!. I am so sorry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
