Question: Can I buy it or what!?
I may have bipolar disorder or psychotic depression or schizoaffective!. I've been told these by three different doctors!. Anyways, I take anti depressants and anti psychotics so my question is can I buy a handgun!? I was also voluntarily committed to a psych unit!. twice!. I've seen the application forms from the sheriffs office which asks if I ever been in a mental institution!. Now a freind told me that this is for people who are court orderd into those places!. I know legislation just passed a bill about this, but I don't know much about it So can you set the record straight!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Was that state or federal legislation!? I'm curious!. I assume, but don't know, that it doesn't matter whether it's a voluntary or involuntary commitment!. The ppl don't want the crazies having guns, blah, blah as if mentally ill ppl commit many crimes!. (We don't, but that's lost on the public!.)
Besides all that, you should not own a hand gun!. Instead, work with your doc and get your mood straightened out!. Life gets much better after that!. If the psychosis has always been in some type of mood state, most likely you are not sza!. Even if so, it's just a matter of finding the right meds ("just" being relative, I know!.) There also are many different treatments for depression up thru and including ETC!.

what would you want with a gun anyway!?!?!?!?!? considering your state of mind, your previous trip to the psych-ward along with your psychotic depressions it is not wise to try to purchase any kind of firearm!.
in any case, the law enforcement institutions will conduct a thorough backround-check and if they find out that you have been in an institution they will not give you a permit!. in some states you are actually bared from owning any firearm period!.

i don't know the legal rules, but why do you want a gun anyway!? i'd be really careful around stuff like that if i were you!. it's probably better not to have one around, just in case something happens and you get really depressed and suicidal!. if it's for hunting, then i definitely don't think you should get one!. actually, i don't thing anyone should get a hunting rifle; what about the poor animals!? if it's for protection or something, mace is a lot less lethal but pretty effective!. sorry, i didn't answer your question, but i just don't think you need a gun!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Once you have been placed in a mental hospital on a 5150(that means you are a danger to yourself or some one else) you can not purchase a gun for 5 years!. You also should have signed something stating that you are aware of this!. At least this is what happened to me!. When I tried to kill myself!. I also live in California!. Don't know if it goes state by state!.
