Will drinking alcohol regularly dramatically affect my lithium levels in my bloo!

Question: Will drinking alcohol regularly dramatically affect my lithium levels in my blood!?
Answers:
My concern would not be with your lithium level, but with your consumption of alcohol!. There is an association between bipolar disorders and alcoholism, and if you feel as though you need to drink, you may be alcoholic as well as bipolar!.
If you are drinking in an alcoholic fashion, and you develop problems with your psychological stability, you could need hospitalization for stabilization and management, whereas without alcohol, the instability might be manageable without hospitalization!.

Since diuretics may affect the levels of lithium, and alcohol has a diuretic effect, it is possible that alcohol may affect the lithium level in your blood, and it is important to maintain a stable lithium level!. Therefore, any factor that might have an unpredictable effect on the lithium level should be avoided, and alcohol is one of those!.

Therefore, if you are taking lithium, I would advise you not to drink more than one alcoholic drink per day (one shot of liquor, or one and one-half ounces), one can or bottle of beer, or one 4-oz glass of wine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it would!. Lithium levels change when body hydration changes and alcohol dehydrates you so it would make sense that your levels would rise!. I don't know how much it would rise, but if you had a drink or 2 you'd be fine!. Just don't get completely drunk!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, almost all drugs become more potent when taken with alcohol, because alcohol expands blood vessels and makes it easier to absorb chemicals!. But as far as "lithium levels" go, I don't think they actually increase!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, but you take the chance of seizures, and dehydration!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
