I asked the army if I could join even though I'm bipolar (it's controlled since I take lithium) and they said if you're taking any medication regularly, you're disqualified, and if you have any mental illness you're disqualified!. I heard the same thing from the navy and marines!. The national guard will probably say the same thing!. It kind of makes sense right!? If you're in a tough situation fighting or something, what are you gonna say!? "Can you guys wait a minute while I take my medicine!? If I don't, I'll become psychotic!." Kind of sucks cuz I wanted it as a backup but now no such luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suspect your eligibility for military service will be dependent on what branch of service and what position you're looking for!. Direct combat roles are characterized by intense stress, which is not good for individuals suffering from schizophrenia!. More support oriented jobs - logistics, for example - or more civilian oriented jobs - military foodservice, for example - might be available!.

Regardless, you should discuss it first with your psychiatrist, and then with a military recruiter prior to making any commitments!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Since you state that you have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, one must assume that you have been seen by a Psychiatrist which means there are records of your diagnosis (psych notes, insurance company, etc)!. This will come out before you are allowed to enter the military!.
I would concentrate on taking care of you and making sure you manage yourself well!. Thanks for wanting to be part of our brave troops!.!.!.that is commendable in itself!.

Take careWww@Answer-Health@Com

That proly isn't a good idea definatly a bad one cause all it's gonna do is mess you up your doing good by seeing a psychitrist and getting help for it and that would be a very bad idea usually people have to take meds and see a theripist/psychitrists after being in the military if you were to join in the state your in who knows what you will be when you get out! Just don't do it!!

Wish you the best
Hope you make the right choice :)

Maybe, if your symptoms are well controlled by medication!.

Boot camp is pretty tough emotionally!. I would have some doubts if someone with Schizophrenia would be able to complete it!.

I just have simple depression and I doubt if I could stand military life!.

Have you talked to your psychiatrist about this!? It might be a good idea if you haven't!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The answer is No! But if you keep your mouth shut, they're not likely to find out unless something comes up on your background check!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
