First you'll need to determine if the way you speak is caused by your choices in vocabulary or if it is a matter of pitch and/or tone!.

I can understand wanting people to realize your age!. At a tiny 83lbs, 5ft (with shoes on), and physical features that in general make me look young, its hard for people to see me for who I actually am!. Even though I am 27 and have 2 kids people often mistake me for my daughter's older sister or the babysitter!. Most people guess my age somewhere between 12 and 16!. Almost every time the postman comes with a package I am asked if my 'mommy' is home, and when people call on the phone they'll ask for my mother as well!. (It is SOOOOOOOOOOO hard not to reply to the postman "Is YOUR Mommy home!?")

Since I am a college graduate with more than one major behind me, my choices in vocabulary don't seem to be the problem!. Often once people spend several minutes with me they realize that I am not as young as they originally thought!.

The main problem for me is my size!. Since I can't grow I try to do things such as pick an age appropriate wardrobe (which is often hard to do when the clothing that fits correctly is often meant for younger individuals)!. I have also tried to watch how I style my hair, and wear makeup!. I have not yet found a way to sound older though!.

Unfortunately there often isn't much you can do to change other's impressions of you!. They will think what they are going to think no matter what you do!. You can only do your best!.

As long as you continue to mature with your peers, eventually people will realize that you are who you are and start to appreciate your qualities more!. It will take more effort to be included, but stay strong and confident!. Others don't dictate who you are ~ you do, and one of the best things you can do is be happy with yourself which allows confidence to shine!. (and confidence helps you appear older/more mature)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've found the way I speak now is very different from when I started university, not just because of I've gotten older but because I the more educated I've become, the more I've learnt to speak properly and clearly!. Speaking is not just how you sound, but what you are saying and how you are saying it!.

For me it was from accumulated experience, university readings expanded my vocabulary and broadened the way I thought, while talking in class really helped me with the way I presented my ideas in conversation, and oral presentations helped me to gain confidence in talking in front of strangers and crowds!. I also took a second language (French in my case), which surprisingly helped my English in so many ways because I became aware of the nuances of the spoken word!

See a speech pathologist if it is a clinical problem such as purely hating the way you enunciate and sound!. However I think that a great way to speak properly is to practice, so maybe you could join a public speaking group such as Toastmasters or a community theatre group!. Maybe even even singing lessons!.!.!.!.

There was a really famous guy from Oprah (he wrote the book 'A Measure of A Man') who came from Africa who learnt to speak properly by listening to the radio and once he found a way he liked, he practiced until he sounded like the broadcaster!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
