Answers:
The half-life of Adderall is about 10 hours!. (Half-life: The time it takes for you to eliminate half the medicine!. It takes about the same amount of time to eliminate half the remaining half, and so forth!. Exponential decay, if you remember that from high school algebra!.)

Anyway, that means that it takes 10 hours for half the effect to wear off, and 20 hours for 3/4ths of it to wear off!. Compare that to caffeine, with a 4 hour half life--that is, half the effects of caffeine wear off in 4 hours, 3/4ths in 8 hours!.!.!. etc!.

Needless to say, with Adderall designed to work just about all day, unless you want to take the pills much earlier in the day, you are probably better off drinking coffee instead--and caffeine has been known to work for ADHD, since it is a stimulant just like almost all ADHD meds are! Caffeine wears off more quickly, and is more general (ADHD stimulants target the brain; caffeine speeds up the entire system), so it is better at improving alertness for working at night!.

If you're not allowed to drink coffee, there are caffeine pills available too, usually marketed as "alertness aid" or some such!. If they give you too much jitteriness (taking one is like chugging down two cups of coffee), cut it in half and take the halves an hour apart or so!.

BTW!. Thank your lucky stars you're working graveyard and not swing shifts--at least you can keep a regular schedule! Give it a month or so, and you'll be fully nocturnal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It really depends on if the Adderall is long lasting (extended release, spansules, etc!.!.!.)!. That will stay in your system a lot longer than a regular dose!. I have GAD, OCD, and Depression!. I take Klonopin for anxiety and Dexedrine (a stimulant like Adderall) for energy and motivation!. Ask your doctor to try some other meds!. Ask about Strattera!. It's different then all the other ADHD meds out there!. It doesn't work in an hour and leave your system after a number of hours, instead it starts to work in about 2 weeks and continually helps with alertness, but doesn't have the side effects of stimulants!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
