Question: Advice needed!.!.!. please!.!.!.!.!?
Hi Everybody,

I'm having trouble getting to sleep!. I've seen my doctor about this problem but he won't give me a sleeping pill!. He gave me Amitriptlyne (can't spell it, sorry) and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!. How can I convince him I need a proper sleeping pill!. I only got 3-4 hours of sleep last night and I have to hold down a full-time job!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suffer from the same prolem and I have found that something as simple as diphenhydramine HCI which is found in the over the counter med called Simply Sleep really helps me!.I have tried several sleeping pills but they never work and come to find out this works great!. I am also bi-polar and have a very busy schedule with 3 kids and no help so I can understand your need 4 sleep!. I hope this will help and using it with your other meds it should give you some relief!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are lots of thing you could try your self but first I take Amitriptlyne for my damages nerves due to a neck problem!.
But you could try not to drink to much of caffine from early evening, you could try having a long bath with lavender in it or you can buy those sleep easy tablets for most supermarkets!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only suggestion i can make is to keep a sleep diary!.
So just record how much sleep you are getting, as a proof to the doctor that you do need something more serious tablet-wise!.

You could also write down any effects it has on your working capability, so as to show the true effects of the insomnia!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You shouldn really start taking sleeping pills because they are probably addictive!.You need to think of more natural ways like cutting down on caffeine, smoking etc!.try looking at some natural remedies in the health shop!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

work harder and get more tired you cant be very good at your
job if you have no sleep you do not need any pills ,
you just need a new way of life!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just get drunk until you pass out!. Or GHB!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Amytriptiline is an antidepressant, one of the side effects is sedation, hence Dr's use it for to help people sleep at times!. You don't need anything to help you sleep, you will sleep naturally, don't eat after 7pm, don't drink tea or coffee after tea!. Have a hot bath not a shower, use some lavender oil in the bath and on your pillow!. If you don't get off to sleep or you wake and cannot get back off to sleep, just get up and do something, keep awake and don't go back to sleep, don't have a nap during the day!. Try again the next night, if it happens again do the same, the most you will no with no sleep is two nights!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Amitriptylin, strictly speaking, is an antidepressant, though we prescribe it sometimes for sleeping disorders that are caused by depression!. It is obvious to me that it is not the right choice for you as a sleeping aid!. You have to help your doctor determine the EXACT reason of your insomnia!. Ask yourself the following questions: Do I have a problem FALLING ASLEEP!? or, Do I have a problem STAYING ASLEEP!? or, BOTH!. Also, are you overweight!? Because that can cause sleep apnea and insomnia!. Is the type of bed you sleep on a part of your problem!? Is there stress in your life!? Do you exert yourself physically or emotionally at bedtime!? Do you eat large meals right before bed!? These and some other factors contribute to insomnia!.
Once all the questions are answered, your Dr must select and appropriate sleeping aid for you!. If you doctor does not take time to go over all these issues or still refuses to help you - find another doctor!!!
hope this helps

Based on your addition I can say, that there are options on the market that do not have a sedating effect at all and you can simply try to take the lowest dosage at first: Rozerem, Lunesta, Sonata!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm bipolar as well; and have trouble sleeping!. But I know it is from the bipolar, however with that being said, there are times I choose to stay awake at night, as tonight I have!. But I also have a full time job that I work from 6 pm to 3 am, driving taxi!. I love the job, but sometimes too much stimuli for my bipolar, thus I end up sleeping less even on my days off!. I sleep well in the day time!. However, I am also on Amptriptyline, he had tried me on Noratriptyline (sp) but it was too strong for me with the job I do!. It sounds like that your diagnosis might need to be unipolar, which is the depression or the mania!. I have both, when the mania is controlled, then the depression is controlled better; as the mania is what brings the depression on!. (it's the crash after the mania)!. but if you are only trying to take a sleeper, then you still need something to control the mania with; if you are only getting antidepressants, then they are making you manic, causing you to stay awake and manic!. The sleeper will not take care of the mania, just the depression!. You need to get a better med adjustment that levels out both, the mania and the lows!. This is a difficult feat, but can be done if you talk and talk and talk to someone that really understands bipolar and the medication that is out there!. Also, you need to keep yourself in counseling, as this is what helps us think better and be more stable with the right meds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
