Can't really feel emotion, what should I do?!


Question: Can't really feel emotion, what should I do!?
Recently I have noticed that I don't feel very specific emotions like love and hate (strong emotions I guess) even at all!. For example I don't feel love for my dad, I know I love him and I would be extremely sad if he died but I don't feel the emotion of love!. I'm 17 and my mom died when I was 10 so that could have triggered this somehow!. My dog died a few months ago (he was truly my best friend as corny as it sounds) and I was sad for quite a while but I don't think I ever felt love its hard to tell!. I have seen a few other people like me on here but they seemed to be more sever!. Unlike most people who don't feel emotion I am actually very happy and content with my life!. I don't have anger problems at all and when I do I cool off very fast but I kind "snap" for lack of a better way to explain it!. I will appear really happy then get extremely mad and cool off within 5 minutes (always with a good reason to get mad)!.

not to sound cliche, but you probably should talk to a school counselor, (if your in school) or a therapist, maybe even your girlfriend or a close friend you can confide in!. i think what is most important is that if deep down inside you know you love your girlfriend, even if you dont feel it, then thats all that matters!. love is a fickle thing and sometimes you feel it and sometimes you feel it in different ways!.

it could also be a delayed reaction to your moms death!. just a theory here, but you could be getting closer to your girlfriend and maybe you fear you may lose her or something like that (not sure how much of an affect on you your moms death had, this is just a theory!.)

anyway find someone you trust and are close to, to discuss how your feeling, and i hope you feel better soon =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have had similar problem!. i think it's due to certain amounts of tension that has built up over time as a reflex to block painful feelings!. i got so used to the tension i didn't know it was there!. i thought i was really fine and happy, but i didn't know how microscopic my sense of life was!. i really think emotions give life meaning!.

i really suggest doing meditation!. i'm finding that the more i do, the more i feel!. just sink down into a relaxed feeling and open up to the feelings in your body!. start with muscle feelings, and you will see the tension that i think we all hold!.

research vipassana meditation!. i think that is one of the best ones for what you want!.

First, I'll give you a medical hoopla of how the brain works!. Feeling, thought, or actions are JUST chemical reactions in the brain!. You have chemicals in you brain (primarily dopamine, and seritonin), and like a "thought" to move your arm is just a travel from one cell (like a tree, down the trunk, through the roots, and into "the next tree" (I know!.!.!.not exact in it thesis, but the idea is there!. Then!.!.!.that tree sends to the next, and next, and next then eventually gets to the muscle to move your arm, and the muscles contract (which is also a chemical reaction) and arm moves!. Well!.!.!.emotions are the same thing, in essence!. It is the brains "interpretation of the chemicals present in your brain!. Now some drugs!.!.!.like Prozac, are called SSRIs (which means selective seritonin re-uptake inhibitors)!. Basical what they do, is when the chemical message is passed from one tree to the next, the chemicals that jump to the next tree, the medicine kinda slows them in the "gap" for a little longer, and this has shown to cause a feeling of "well-being" or whatever!. There are another type of medication (ACTUALLY there are about 30 anti-depressants), but it may be that you MAY benefit from "keeping the chemicals" in that gap for a bit longer, just to help increase your well being, and maybe instead of a life that sounds like (on a scale from 1 to 10) you just kinda hang out in the middle!.!.!.no love!.!.!.no REAL hate, so you are like a 4 to 6 to 4 to 6 to 4!. Maybe if you were ABLE to reach it to a 7 or 8 or 9 (or!.!.!.Heaven forbid a 10!!), then you might also be able to reach the "lows" of the scale as well!.!? Maybe!? I am a firm believer in people being very active in the decisions of their treatment, but you OBVIOUSLY think something is "wrong" or you wouldn't have written!. Maybe you should go and talk to your Dr!. (and!.!.!.NO! You parents DO NOT need to be there when you talk to the Doc!.) Maybe give it a shot!. Sounds like you got a great GF!.
