A doctor won't be as helpful to you as a good counselor!. DID isn't usually treated with medication (unless the proscribing psychiatrist is one of those who mistakes the condition for schizophrenia)!. To my knowledge there are NO useful drugs for 'treating' dissociated identities; rather, they tend to unstablize the structure of the Inside and leave the ones Inside frustrated or even trapped!.
You'd be much better off looking for a counselor who specializes in trauma disorders (as DID is usually the a mind's way of coping with traumatic events early in life)!. Consider calling around town to different offices and asking for an interview with different counselors!. Ask specifically for someone who has experience treating trauma victims and could give you some insight into dissociative conditions!. (If you'd like to be sneaky, you could tell them you're researching for a paper or class, etc!.) You'll be able to tell right away if the therapist is someone who is open-minded to the DID diagnosis, or if he/she does not believe the Interior persons really exist!.
For some interesting (although very controversial) perspectives on disociation, check out www!.survivorship!.org!. There, counselors and clients share their experiences of DID and (specifically) the ritual abuse that sometimes cause it!.
(I'd also be very happy to answer specific questions, if you like !.!.!.!. cstorm72000@yahoo!.com)Www@Answer-Health@Com
