I am a psychologist!. Needless to say there are strong feelings between psychologists and psychiatrists!. As a psychologist, we feel that many (not all obviously) psychiatrists are too happy to willy nilly dish out medication!.

Most psychologists cannot dish out medication, so they most often try to deal with the root of the problem first!.

Sometimes medication may hide and not deal with the issues pending!. Having said that, some cases do need medication and we refer them to psychiatrists or GP's!.

If you are not happy to take the medication, do explain this to your therapist and consider going to a psychologist or alternative therapist!.

Although you have only spent 4 hours with the therapist, they are trained to pick up your symptoms!. Think about it in terms of your GP, you spend 10 minutes and he dishes out medication!.

So my first advice is speak to them about your hesitation to take the medication!. Get them to explain to you WHY you need it!. And if all fails seek a second opinion!.

Obviously without knowing your history, I cannot just advise you to not take your medication but hopefully with this advice, you can make up your own mind!. Your not wanting to take your medication, especially if you do not feel you need medication, is not about trust issues but about being sensible!. Questioning something is always a good thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they usually are pretty good at knowing what they're doing and i've had therapists giving me medications even earlier than that!. if you're going regularly for counseling or whatever, they sometimes start you out on a medicine and continue to see how you're feeling when you're there to see if you're making progress being on the medicine!. if it's not working, they can then sometimes tell and possibly change it to something that could work!. if you really don't think she knows what is wrong with you, maybe you could say that!.!.or say you want to wait to be put on medication!. i'm assuming your therapist is just trying to help and get whatever it is that is the problem closer to being taken care of!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd have questions!. If I didn't think my therapist knew me well enough to prescribe meds, I'd talk to her about it!. I'd want a say, and I'd want her to appreciate my reluctance!. I'd want her to know it was my decision!. If I had big questions, I'd also get a second opinion!. Just because one psychiatrist hands out pills, does not mean you have to automatically take them!. It is your body!. Your doctor works for you!. Putting them in your mouth everyday is your responsibility, so you have to be not only part of the decision but also believe it is the right one for you!. Talk some more to your doc and do so in an intelligent way!. She is doing what she believes is in your best interest!. You just need to understand why that is!. If after that you still question, then go get that other opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, medication should be a last resort, unless you are in a state where you are unable to cope with daily life!. You might just tell her you don't want to use meds and ask what else she is willing to try first!. If she is not willing to work with you try elsewhere, YOU are paying HER!. She works for you!. I would try a psychologist, they don't use meds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Medication is part of their job, they get paid for every prescription filled in their name!.Besides that seems to be the answer for all of them!.Americans are medicated for everything!!! Medicatiion is a for sure that you'll be back (got to get that script)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes you have trust issues!. If you feel you need this prescription confirmed get a 2nd opinion from a friend's therapist or relatives!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your concerns are completely legitimate!. If you're not comfortable with a therapist who gives out prescriptions like candy, change therapists!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just try taking them!. If you dont like them then stop, they will be a professional and they know what they're doingWww@Answer-Health@Com

you're scared off the pills and want a reason not to take them!.

your in denial but thats good it means your normalWww@Answer-Health@Com

You have a right to refuse medication!. Don't let them bully you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
