Going to see a new mental health specialist?!

Question: Going to see a new mental health specialist!?
A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with having Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder by a mental health specialist!. I was in school at the time!. My former docter started me out with Strattera, a non stimulant for treatment of ADHD!. I took it for about a month and it didn't help that much!. I was then placed on Adderall and noticed the results right away and it worked well for me!. I finished up that semester, doing well, and stopped taking the Adderall because my job, the Army Guard, didn't require me to be so focused on things as in a classroom environment!. Now I am soon out of my deployment and I am going back to school!. I have set up an appointment with a mental health specialist in the Army and will explain what medication worked for me and what didn't!. However, I am worried that since this will be a new doctor, he or she might try to put me on something else that won't work!. What can I tell them to ensure that I get the correct medication that helped me before!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You should definitely tell your new Health Care Provider about your medication preference!. Explain that you have taken Adderall before, and that you found it worked well for you!.

Your new doctor may still make other suggestions, since there are new medications on the market, your needs may have changed, and you are (of course) older, which can affect how a medication works!.

Listen to your doctor, but remain firm if you feel Adderall is the right choice for you!. You can always change medication later if you find it doesn't work as well is it had in the past!.
