"Retard" is a disgusting term that should not be used to describe anyone, whether they are developmentally delayed or not! This student may be autistic, which is a disorder that makes it difficult for one to interact with others, due to problems processing the world around them!. He may be just immature for his age!. He may be extremely introverted and suffer from low self esteem so he lives out Power Ranger fantasies!. He may just be in desperate need of a friend!. Have you ever tried to get to know him instead just staring at him and making assumptions you know nothing about!? Give the kid a break and make an attempt to befriend him!.!.!.you may find that his behavior changes when he has REAL friends to interact with instead pretending to be a Power Ranger!. It could be a defense mechanism for his feelings of insecurity!. He may still be 'different' from most of your friends but you just find an interesting, lifelong friend in the process!. Do you know this kid very well at all!?!? Maybe he just likes Power Rangers, and that is his thing, he is just slowed in his social skills and social growth, but that doesn't mean he is "retarded"!. People develop at different levels, and just because he isn't up to speed with the rest of the 14 year olds in your school, doesn't say oh he is crazy and retarded!.

Whether it's the word 'retard' or not, I've encountered situations where people call someone (someone not present at the time) not smart, or sometimes, even stupid!.
I'm often baffled at the situations like this, because the person those people call, well, stupid seems to me to be perfectly normal, but is considered not compatible by that particular group of people, often because of misunderstandings!.
So, I guess there's a chance that you haven't discovered the many interesting aspects this kid potentially has!.
I hope you start to take time and observe this kid, and people around you carefully!.

Retard is not a proper term to judge someone's mental "illness"!. Although he is 14 and watches it and possibly blurrs the line between reality and fiction he might have another issue!. If you think that is crazy then take the case of little children and how they do similarly!. I would say that he might not have matured yet or he could just really like power rangers!.
