Answers:
drugs don't really cure anything, sugar, the pharmaceutical companies would go out of business if they did!.!.!.think some mental illnesses are real but others are contrived as excuses for bad behavior!.!.!.there is no physical test for a brain imbalance!.!.!.yes, proper diet and exercise can alleviate the onset and perpetuation of conditions, contrived or otherwise!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mental illnesses are real!. There are different types, however!. Personality disorders, for examples, have nothing to do with the biology of the brain!. Drugs for them are pointless!. Depression is a normal human emotion!. Everyone experiences it!. It becomes a problem when it sticks around too long!. In my view, most situational depression can be treated with self-help, friends, and therapy instead of pills!. It's a temporary problem that resolves eventually!. On the other hand, chronic depression is a physical condition associated with smaller hypocampal volume and some loss of grey matter!. So, there is a physical test showing a problem, you just have to be dead to have it!. In this case, antidepressants provide for normal functioning!. That's not to say exercise, good nutritian, and so forth aren't important!. They are!. They alone just won't solve the problem!.

I have bipolar disorder, lived many years undiagnosed and unmedicated!. I instinctively did all the healthy things to stay functional!. It caught up to me anyway!. The disease is now worse than it would have been if I had sought treatment earlier!. In this case, unfortunately for me, bipolar is a progressive illness when left untreated!. Some of the medication slows if not stops that progression!. None of the psychotropics cure the illness and you will not find one psychiatrist who says the meds will prevent mood swings in the future!. They won't!. They just hopefully make them less severe and less frequent while increasing functioning in between!. Oh, and the physical test!.!.!. loss of grey and white brain matter, but again, you have to be dead before you can have the test that shows, yes, your brain is diseased!.

So!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. yes, mental illnesses are real!. There is an extensive body of research showing impaired functioning and also brain deterioration!. ("Imbalance" is a buzz word that means nothing, IMO!.) Yes, a person can receive lots of relief from many mental stressors by non-drug means, and can also improve efficacy of med treatment when meds actually are necessary!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I urge you caution when reading the other responses!. There are no drugs that cure mental illness in the way that we would say antibiotics cure an infection!. Instead, psychotropics can relieve troubleing symptoms!.
We do not know enough about the brain or its hundreds of neurotransmitters to speak of imbalances!. And certainly, depending on the condition, talk therapy is very helpful and CBT has been found to be as equally as effect as antidepressants!. However, certain condition can get past the point where talking is productive!. Working with an unmedicated patient who is psychotic, manic, or in such a depression that they cannot bath even get out of bed is futile!. Drugs are absolutely necessary in these situations!. Otherwise, each person needs to make their own decision as to what kind of pain (mental, physical) they are willing to tolerate to have the quality of life they deserve!. If your anxiety or depression is
making your life more painful than pleasurable, why not try everything you can to soothe yourself!? As for the comment that drug make the situation worse, I have seen such cases!. This is never the patient's fault for seeking help!. Aside from an unforeseen drug reaction, this is usually due to a clinician who is not listening to their patient, not monitoring them carefully enough, or who has misdiagnosed thepatient!. But in answer to you question, i have been in the mental health field for many years!. Regardless of how one feels about medcations, mental illness are very real, and can be some of the most painful and devastating conditions I have seen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

psychtropic drugs may not cure mental illness but it can relieve its symptoms!. a person could absolutely receive relief from a mental illness without the use of drugs!.!.!.it will depend on a lot of factors, including the presenting problem(s), severity of the problem(s), person's willingness to try non-drug means of treatment, etc!. for example, research has shown that psychotherapy has been helpful in treating depression!. also, some mental illnesses may not respond to drug treatment or may rely more on behavior modification strategies, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

of course!. Honestly, humans cannot be completly changed just my some bullshit drug!. There has to be will power, support, and a drive to accomplish!. The condition or state can be changed over a matter of time, but no, drugs are never the perfect answer or solutions!.
Mental Illness is simply a label that gets put on people by other people "qualified" to call someone unhealthy!. Drugs are not the only solution, no
hope that helpsWww@Answer-Health@Com

NO!!!! They make it worse! There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance!. Mental illnesses are usually just ego run amuck!. A person who is sooooooo controlled by their emotions, ego and thoughts can be an insane freak to the rest of the world!. Relief usually comes through 100% sobriety and support groups, 12 step programs, therapy and the greatest book ever written A NEW Earth!. Believe me I was diagnosed with manic depression, I refused medictation and went to AA!. I am totally a different person than I used to be!. Calm and happy and I have tons of friends, a good job!. etc!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mental illness, is however real and is of three basic types!. organic, genetic, or chemically induced!. There are treatment for all three, and can be controlled or treated effectively!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Great question! Many of the medications used control the symptoms!.!.!.the symptoms of the illness are what makes us uncomfortable!.!.!.so while the illness may not be "cured", the effects are controlled and we feel better!. In the case of depression, for example, patients are kept on medication for a period of time!.!.!.slowly taken off and symptoms observed for return!. If they do not return, the medication is discontinued and the patient goes on with life!. In some cases, the symptoms return and the medication is continued!.!.!.some patients remain on anti-depressants for a very long time (as in chronic depression)!. That's my opinion, anyway! Good luck! kjlWww@Answer-Health@Com

your question is compilcated with a complicated reply but heres the down low !. it depends on the condition!. like pardon my spelling skitzophrania for this one sorry but you have to be on med for the rest of your lif eto keep it in check!. but for post partom depression you may only need to be on meds for a short time or not at all depending on how bad it is!. for bipolar disorder yup you need meds all the time even in what the call the highs, of the disorder!. no all "brain/ mental " imbalances are just that !. i mean there not always a brain problem usually its a chemical thing!. and thats why your put on meds to put your bodies chemical back in wack not to fix your brain!. there are a few rare conditions where there is actuall something abnormal with the brain and sometimes it can be fixed and other times it cant!. thats why serial killers are studied so much in part because it is found that the part of the brain its the frontal lobe that controls emotion well for a few of them the agression part is very high and doesnt seem to shut down like yours or mine would!. and theres also other disorders where people have tumores on the brain and because of these tomurs they do things that they would never do if they didnt have the tumer!. i know none of this makes n e sense!. but here is what we have found in some disorders like add we have found that certant foods can in fluince as a triger for the hyperness and if you intake other foods or herbs they can help calm you !. for a person with add or adhd think of it this way its like putting a a movie on fastfoward and drink five energy drinks at once!. you cant concentrate and you have all of this energy and nothing to do with it!. so what do you do, for some disorders yes we have found other ways to control them if they arent that bad!. but when it comes to disorders like bipolar skitzophrania and then you can get into really gorry disoders they only way to treat them is by meds and they reason for this is because if you dont the person with the imbalance will either hurt them self or hurt someone else!. test that can be done r ct scans mris computer test blood test!. it depends on the disorder!. so now you big question can medication cure mental illness the reply is no!. and nothing cannot an herb that we know of not a pill or a picture or a rebirthing procedure!. a person who is mentall ill isnt so because they want to be they usually care because they were born that way or they were drove that way!. if they were drove that way they may have a chance to come back from their mind!. but when it comes down to it none of us wants to be in in our heads sometimes we just get stuck there!. and noone knows why!. the mind body and soul are still a mystery to us after all of these years we have little answears for so many questions!. but theres always hope!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
