There are naturaly things you can do to supplement mood stabilizers, but nothing to replacement them (assuming that you want effective treatment)!.

For depression, Omega 3 fish oil can provide a noticeable improvement!. Recent research concluded that 2 grams was equivalent to 20mg of Prozac!. This means a lot to me since antidepressants make me mixed or manic even on stabilizers!. There also is using a light box, but care is needed because this can flip some to mixed or manic despite stabilizers!.

For hypo/mania, a big one is adherring to a standard sleep schedule!.

For both, there is therapy and learning to manage stress!. Of course, good nutritian, exercise, and so forth are important as well!.

Sorry, no miracle natural remedy!. If there were one, I think all of us would be taking it!. If you do go on that search, just remember that bipolar is a progressive illness!. Stabilizers slow if not stop that progression!. Nothing else has been shown to do the same!. You have your own skin to live in and brain to live with when you're old!. It all catches up to you sooner or later!. So, my advice to to take the short detour if you really have to travel that road at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually I would recommend trying to drop the Effexor first!. Bipolar people should only very rarely be given SSRIs, as they can induce manic swings!. Your recent manic phase may have been caused by this!. So now your doctor says "you need more lithium," probably BECAUSE of the Effexor!. I've seen it before!. There are other mood stabilizers that can treat your depression without giving you swings and can be added to the lithium!.

So before trying anything homeopathic I would talk to your doctor about the possibility that you are over medicated right now/not on the right meds and it is making things worse!.

unfortunately not!.
bipolar is is not a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated mood, clinically referred to as mania!. Individuals who experience manic episodes also commonly experience depressive episodes or symptoms, or mixed episodes in which features of both mania and depression are present!.

there are certain psychiatric ways in which can actually help, but becasue everyone is different, they may not help!.

some prefer group therapy, others individual sessions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, because of the nature of Bi-polar it's going to take a strong remedy which will have side effects!. It sucks, but I imagine not so much as the disease itself!? Keep working with your doc to find meds that work for you!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I doubt it seriously!. If I had bi polar I certainly wouldnt mess around with my medications!. Unless your already off your meds for some reason then I spose it wouldnt harm to see a naturopath about it!. However I doubt there are any herbs strong enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i read an article that said a person took lots of omega 3 and soon did not need their medicine anymore
look on google under alternative mental health

As far as nutrition is concerned:

Omega 3 is a good natural mood stabilizer!. Herring, mackerel, and flaxseed are some good sources of omega 3!.
Bananas, nuts, figs, chocolate (the dark variety is healthier), turkey, whole-wheat bread, brown rice and tomatoes help increase the production of serotonin and dopamine!.
And I heard seaweed helps reduce anxiety!.
Drink plenty of water as dehydration can contribute to emotional instability!.
Eat lots of calcium rich foods as they help decrease anxiety!.
(cottage cheese is a good choice)

Also try St!. John's wort, Valerian root, Damiana, Ginseng!.
St John's wort is effective but can cause side effects such as: gastrointestinal complaints, fatigue, and oversensitivity to sunlight and should not be taken in conjunction with other antidepressants or with certain medications, including indinivir, oral contraceptives, theophylline, warfarin, digoxin, reserpine, cyclosporine, and loperamide!.

"Herbal solutions for stress/nervousness: Chamomile tea; good taste, and calms nerves!. Valerian - a natural tranqualizer!."

Now, most of these aren't supplements but could work in conjunction with your medication!.

Apparently this is a natural antidepressant but keep in mind that at least where non organic medication is concerned, mood stabilizers actually work better on a bipolar than antidepressants do due to the mood lability!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
