According to an article in the 2006 Journal of Affective disorders - it is not!. Here is a short excert:-

Consuming sweet foods is thought to release the neurotransmitter beta-endorphin in the hypothalamus, which is said to have an opiate effect on the body!.

But why the chocolate high is so transient and insufficient to sustain mood in those who eat it for emotional reasons remains unknown!.

The theory that chocolate acts as an antidepressant comes from the common belief that a serotonin deficiency causes chocolate cravings, but the review has found no support for this hypothesis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

not really, i like to eat chocolates, but my depression still there!.

Chocolates are only good for de-stressing especially dark chocolates!.

but chocolates does not cure depression for sure!. if you have serious depression, consult a doctor would be a better option!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For clinical depression, probably not!. If it's just general down in the dumps, chocolate almost always helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
