Why am I always scared bad things will happen to me?!

Question: Why am I always scared bad things will happen to me!?
I do suffer from bipolar and have for years and I don't think this has anything to do with it - however, I recently got in the past year or so this attitude as if everything really bad will happen to me!. It's been especially bad with reproduction!. I had a fear I was infertile!. It was a terrible fear!. I got pregnant really fast!. Then, for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy I was convinced I'd have a miscarriage even after I heard the heartbeat (which drops your risk to under 3%)!. Now I am scared my baby will have Down's Syndrome (risk is 1/1500 for my age group) and/or spina bifida (risk is 1/1000 of all pregnancies)!. I'm always convinced the worst is coming for me!. It's not really something I feel can be medicated away - at least for the duration of the pregnancy!. Is there any reason some people just think doom is coming for them!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

My guess is that these fears really didn't develop "all of the sudden"!. You are under an incredible amount of stress right now!.!.!.from what I remember you are planning a wedding (or was recently married!?), still going to school, and just found out that you are pregnant with your FIRST baby (which is always terrifying even without these other things going on)!. So while you may have had difficulty with anxiety in the past, anxiety + extra stress of TTC and pregnancy almost always equals an incredible exacerbation of worry and fears!.

The fact that you recognize that you always fear the worst from happening (If you're in therapy you've probably heard the term "catastrophizing"- thinking the worst is going to happen) means that you can do something about it!. I'm not sure what you are learning in therapy, but there are ways to calm the mind and reduce the catastrophizing (relaxation, self-talk statements, thought challenging, mindfulness exercises)!. Now is an especially important time to be using all of the skills that you've learned because you do have so much on your plate right now!.

Lastly, you are doing a great job! It sounds like you are a very smart person who is constantly seeking knowledge, have a loving partner, and a good life!. Your baby will be beautiful and perfect, so make sure to take care of her/his mom!

Best wishes to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you might suffer from anxiety as well!. if you go to a therapist, than you can try and talk about how you are feeling with them as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YOu shouldnt you should Keep Ur self Really Happy thinking of bad as in suffering stuff can cause sometimes problemsWww@Answer-Health@Com

pray and have faith in god that everything will be alright!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Of course you're worried! This is your precious child, and you fear something will go wrong!. If your worries are just about your pregnancy, as long as the doctor isn't concerned and your eating right, not drinking/smoking, etc!., I would relax!. Try some relaxation- guided relaxation- CDs!. It will help with your anxiety, I promise!.

If your anxiety is about other things, you may have an anxiety disorder!. Lots of us bipolars have them!. They have medication and therapy that helps, but the meds will have to wait until you deliver!. There is general anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia- several diagnosis!.

Something happened that caused something totally unrelated but bad to happen, but you associate the two as if they caused each other!. Now you associate everything with a bad outcome!.

Sorry to say, but it took me a year to get it under control, and it still sneaks up on me!. Let's hope it's just the mommy-thing and you'll be your old self!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Im the same except not with my pregnancy!. I worry about my mother and my father!. Il beg my mum to stay off work cause i get so scared!. Ive been like this for years!. U go 4 scans to check for spinabifida and stuff like that!. My sis was born with spinabifida and she got an operation at 3days old, she has a scar but shes 20 now and she can do everything i can do and i have nothing wrong!.ive had 1 miscarriage the baby didnt form and now im pregnant again and of course i worry is he ok am i allowed to do this and that i know that he doesnt have a bad case of spinabifida because he can move his feet and he has a thin neck so he has a low chance of downsyndrom!. U get what u can handle im only 15!. Im sure ur child will be healthy!.

Edit
And take vitamins for pregnancy!. It lowers the risksWww@Answer-Health@Com

I had this exact same problem, and was diagnosed with anxiety!. Treatment is the same as if you had depression!. Medication fixed the problem for me!. I only had to take it a short time, and am much better now!.

ADD: btw!.!.sonograms can pretty much role out both down's syndrome AND spina bifida!.

ADD: Anxiety can lay "dormant" for long periods of time, and stress will make it come out!. That is what happened to me!. I think the medication must put it into some kind of remission, and it may or may not ever come back again!.

Good luck with your baby! Try to keep in mind that all of the odds are strongly in your favor that your baby will be healthy!. My daughter was born on Dec 19 and she LOVES having her birthday during the holiday season!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why !? Because this is sort of that "magic thinking" kind of thing!. The idea is that IF I worry sufficiently about some possible tragedy that I can prevent it from "sneaking up on me"!. Sorta like preventive worrying!. You say you suffer from Bi Polar have you ever asked if your therapist thinks you have a smidgen of OCD rolled in there !? That's a form of obsessive thought process!. Surprise ! You didn't think about that and it sneaked up on you!. Sorry, just a little levity there!. No one, NO ONE can prevent negative occurrences by "sufficient "pre-worry"!. You can prepare for things to minimize the probability but you can't prevent it by "pre-worry"!. Life doesn't work that way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

OK let me stop you right here "suffer from bipolar"!.
Do you really think you should even consider reproducing!?
You will pass it on, if not to your child then their children!.
Think of me what you will, but it is genetic and you WILL be passing it on!.
Not only that but think of the psychological damage you would do to the child!.
You can't predict how you will treat your child, you are unqualified to make that determination!.
Having a kid isn't like getting a puppy!.
You have a lot to think about, I suggest you get well first!.
Then (I use this word loosely) maybe think about adopting!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
